I do think it makes their route tougher. However, if they were truly the best team, I think they could absolutely win it all. Especially, if they make it thru the gauntlet and have to face a 'weaker' 4A team from outside of L'ville.

The Big 3 could play that schedule against each other and go undefeated. It's an unfair standard. There isn't a team in this state that could do it.

If Trinity had to go undefeated through three straight weeks of:

 

St. X @ X

St. X @ X

Male @ Male

 

they wouldn't been state champs last season.

 

I'm all for 'the best team is undefeated,' but that's not what I'm talking about. No team in the state of Kentucky is capable of wading through three games on the road against the Big 3. It's not just difficult, it's not just Manual not being up to snuff. No team in the state could be expected to do it.

But think about teams in the sweet 16 that have had to play the best teams to even get to the championship game. It happens with a blind draw, even though this one sure doesn't look blind to me.

I've been to enough X-Manual games to know that no matter who is wearing what color uniform that X has most of the advantages of homefield. Not the amenities of home field, maybe, but the advantages? Yeah.

 

I do believe that if Manual broke through and finished ahead of X in the district, they would ask for the game to be played at a neutral site. Atherton maybe.

 

I should have said 4 games likely on the road, but even if Manual beats Male that only gives them one home game- Male the very next week. Then it would be home for X and home for Trinity (under this plan, Trinity gets homefield this year.)

We beat Male once, in 01, first time since 88. And we haven't beaten X since... I want to say 94 or 95. We have came SO close on numerous occasions, but, you know, HORSESHOES.

Your research was into Manual during their very, very down years. If you look at the current trends, a different picture shows up.

 

Manual has lost to a current district opponent 3 of their last 4 trips to the playoffs (PRP in '01, Male in '02, Didn't make it in '03, R2D3 opponent in '04, X in '05)

 

So I don't really get your point. Lately, it has not been the Hardin Co. schools keeping Manual from advancing.
