You couldn't be more wrong about this.

 

It was set up as is to try to get NO Louisville team in the finals.

 

People in the state complained when it was Jefferson County Cahmp vs. State at large champ for the 4A title. Louisville shouldn't be assured a spot in the championship game they said so it was set up as is with the Louisville districts on opposite sides because if they are on the same side that still almost assures a Louisville team in the championship.

 

I liked that way better. I would be shocked if there ever wasn't a L'ville 4A team in the finals. They do have the best teams year in and year out in 4A. I had no problem with that until the L'ville teams weren't as good as the rest of the state and to date, ... that has not happened.

I think the 5A thing is better than this.

and I could pick any number of 3A teams that have as little or even worse chance of beating those 3A powers.

Again, that's wonderful, but it's not the point.

 

There are still AAA teams out there that can do it.

 

There is NO TEAM IN THE STATE IN ANY CLASS OR REGION that could go Manual's route and win a state title. Manual could be the best team in the state, and still WOULD NOT win through that.

 

That's all there is to discuss.

At first blush it appears that the new system (Intradistrict first two games, then draw for the next two) affects the following schools in the following manner:

 

St. X- Helps: Most years they had to play Male, Manual or PRP in their district. This will not change. Round three this year may pit them against Trinity. Unlike the state championship game, in which all proceeds go to the KHSAA, they will split the gate. The money is important to X because they receive no funds from the state. Along these lines, the lack of travel in the first two rounds helps them for monetary reasons as well as the fact that even when they are playing an "away" game in Jefferson County they will generally have the larger crowd unless they're playing against Trinity in which case the crowd should match up evenly. Round three in future years gives them an opportunity to play in the Eastern region, which, recently, absent Trinity, has been the weaker region.

 

Trinity- Hurts in the long run: This first year the new system should assist Trinity for the same monetary reasons it should assist St. X. Future years, however, could cause them to play Western Kentucky teams such as John Hardin, Henderson County, Warren Central North Hardin and Christian County, which recently are overall generally a notch above the Eastern bracket.

 

Male- Helps: They still have to play the same intradistrict games that St. X plays, but they also get a shot at the Eastern region with the possibility, like St. X, of an easier road to the state championship.

 

Manual, PRP, Butler- Hurts: Generally these schools, while playing good football, have little chance to win a state championship in football. PRP has never won; Manual last won in 1966 and Butler has not won state for a quarter century. However, these schools now have less chance of advancing deep into the playoffs, hurting postseason monetary possibilities as well as quashing excitement at the schools on the occasional year that one of these schools may have gone deep into the playoffs.

Again, that's wonderful, but it's not the point.

I do think it makes their route tougher. However, if they were truly the best team, I think they could absolutely win it all. Especially, if they make it thru the gauntlet and have to face a 'weaker' 4A team from outside of L'ville.

Thanks to the BOC for the extra pocket change for the Louisville schools. Hopefully district 1 won't draw district 8 very often. I am awaiting a reply to an inquiry to the KHSAA about the playoff situation. The odd/even district bit the 2A twice with 2 odds and 2 evens playing each other.

Who gets to be home team if both district winners survive? Semi state is no longer east vs west, so who gets to be home team if two number 1s survive?

Hummm, I believe Cov Cath and Highlands have 13 of 19 in 3A - not much of a difference if you ask me.

And thats 13 of 19 from the SAME DISTRICT - not different districts like your comparison.

 

Add to the equation that except for Boyles marvelous streak including 3 straight 3A crowns (2001,2,3)

ONLY 1 3A title has even come from the Western half of the bracket in the last 20 years (BG in 95) :eek:

 

So to recap for those scoring at home (and I certainly hope someone has been scoring:D )

 

In roughly the last 20 years of KY HS Football:

 

3A has had 16 of 20 champions from the Eastern half of the bracket

and 13 of those were from just 2 teams in the same district.

 

4A has had 9 champions from their Western half of the bracket

[ St.X 6, Male 2, Nelson Co. 1 ]

and 12 champions from the Eastern half of their bracket

[ Shelby Co. 1, Geo.Rogers Clark 1, the imaginary "eastern" school Trinity 10 ]

....and for those needing it stated that is 18 from just the Big 3 - T, X, & M.

 

So anyone willing to take off their Jeffersonian shades should be able to see that their situation is not that unique that everyone else is going to be quick to feel sorry for you

 

If I'm off by a number or 2 please feel free to point it out but I dont believe the overall issue being addressed here will be changed dramatically

When I say that Male, X and T have owned 15 of the last 18 slots to play for the title, I mean that only three other schools have even made it to the state finals in the past nine years. On EITHER side of the bracket

 

When you say 13 of 19, and they come from the same district, well, to paraphrase a favorite line:

If they come from the same district, then you mean that two schools have owned 13 of the last 19 slots for one side of the bracket, correct? As in, for the past 19 years, there have been 25 out of 38 other chances at the state title?

On the Western side of the bracket, the Big 3 own 14 of the last 16 slots (A whopping 88%.) Big difference from 13 of 19 (68%.) If you take out Trinity versus Boone in '94 (which I want to say marks the last year of Louisville vs the World) it's just two teams from the same district owning 13 of 15 slots! Overall, the Big 3 own 21 of the last 32 slots. That's a majority, some of the time from when it was Louisville versus the world and the rest of the state was promised a slot.

 

As we can clearly see, it's not comparable.

Where were you at earlier BIGZIG? I would have liked to see this post directly after the start of the thread. Five pages of name dropping, name calling, stat posting, and nothing changes. The KHSAA made a decision, that like most others is ridiculous and shows how out-of-touch the organization is. This is like fixing the broken down truck with baling wire and tape, patching the hole in the Titanic with rags and bubble gum. Some will like it and some will hate it. Maybe the resolution to more of the problems would be made easier if we fix the the problems by starting at the source.

:thumb: Sorry it took so long for me to respond but I've got insight and whatever they have been doing the last couple of weeks has been a fiasco with their sytem changeover.

Your preaching to the choir regarding the KHSAA. This group of individuals is like everything else in this state. Nothing more then a "Good Old Boy Network" that simply looks out for their own and could care less about whats good for the state as a whole. Until massive changes are mad and there is a complete overhaul by someone in the state then it will remain just as it is. The BOC is nothing more then a bunch of guys/gals who make backroom deals to keep everything pretty much the way it works best for them and the schools they represent with a puppet as their spokesperson/commissioner.

Cancel the season then. If the best team in the state cannot win the title, they are not the best team.

If Trinity had to go undefeated through three straight weeks of:

Male @ Male

 

they wouldn't been state champs last season.

 

I'm all for 'the best team is undefeated,' but that's not what I'm talking about. No team in the state of Kentucky is capable of wading through three games on the road against the Big 3. It's not just difficult, it's not just Manual not being up to snuff. No team in the state could be expected to do it.
