New football playoff format would pit Louisville schools...

Featured Replies

The problem, and slap in the face, is that is how it was. The "new/old" system has made the state a factor in the big time world of our own kids doing well (see FREE education). A change back to what it was is the issue for most...

So your biggest grip is that with this new system that it will be certain in some years that Louisville wont get both teams in the final game. That is it in a nutshell.

I dont understand why you would oppose a strictly Louisville Super Class. That provides you what you want in a championship and the state will not be a factor in "your world".

If you're counting regular season games - theres nothing I can do about that. Change your reg season schedule if you dont like it.

Where is the 3rd playoff game against the super powers? The way I read this the first 2 rounds would be intra-division then a draw - thats 2 games?

Again, I think you might want to bone up on your 4A.

In 4A, there are two Louisville districts, one with Male, Manual, St. X, etc and another with Trinity, Ballard, Fern Creek, etc. So the draw for the Louisville 'region' (surprise, surprise when that happens) gives you the third game in a row against the Big 3 during the playoffs.

No, I don't agree AT ALL.

If you look at 4A, Louisville is the logical place to split down the middle. First of all, there are enough 4A teams in Louisville for two districts. There are three districts worth of teams West of Louisville, and three districts worth of teams East of Louisville. Unless the school population data is being altered, there is no vast conspiracy.

I mean, what are you going to do? Pair NKY with schools that are near Bowling Green?

Makes more sense than taking teams that are what, within 25 miles of each other and create some sort of illusion that they are in 2 different parts if the state.

yeah right a child of 3 can see how ridiculous that is :p

Are you as "blind" as the draw? If Manual finishes 3rd or 4th they now have X and Male in round 1 and 2. If the "blind draw" puts T in round 3, that all of them in less than a month. Count Manual's traditional last regular season game, and you now have four in a row. I hope to NEVER see your response on the year Ashland gets CCH/HHS/Lex Cath in all four of your final games...

My "world" is NKY. Next???

NKY v WKY. Ville vs Ville. EKY v Lex. Seems to sum this one up well in reguards to the EKY crowd up in arms...

OK, lets try this again.

The split, geographically speaking, has to be somewhere, right? You're going to end up with schools that are close to each other being placed in seperate semi-states, right?

Well, in 4A, that split happens in Louisville. No voodoo magic involved, just the fact that if you split the state into 4 classes by population numbers; then read the names from West to East; you end up having the middle of the run in Louisville.

Now, I know that may seem odd to you, but it's how it is. Try it yourself sometime. Or try and make a sensible regional pairing, based on geography and not wishful thinking, that puts Louisville in one region.

You can't. The closest you get is Boone Co. playing Warren Central and Meade Co. playing Henry Clay for a 'regional' title between schools that are several regions apart! It's silly.

Then you believe in a vast conspiracy that is altering the population numbers.

It has NOTHING to do with how it relates to other classes.

If you take a map of Kentucky, and put a dot for every high school that makes the 4A limit, the middle point is Louisville. Plain and simple. That's all that matters. Geographically speaking, there are roughly 24 teams East of Louisville, 16 teams in Louisville, and roughly 24 teams West of Louisville that make up the largest 25% of the high schools in Kentucky.

It's that simple. I'm sorry if you think that makes me closed-minded, but it seems pretty cut and dried to me.

This is the simple truth: In Class 4A, there are 24 teams in the West and 30 teams in the East. FACT.

If you moved the 6 Louisville teams from the East bracket into the West bracket, then guess what you have? You have 30 teams in the West bracket and 24 in the East bracket, just as it is balanced now. Only all of the Louisville teams are on the West.

I guess this posting of the facts makes me a conspiracy theorist.

Move them WHERE?

You now have the same number of teams on each side as you do now, but how do you do the districts?

Because now you have 5 (WKY, CKY1, CKY2, L1 and L2) logical districts in the West, and 3 (NKY, LEX, EKY) logical districts in the East because all of Louisville in 4A is too big for one district. Doesn't compute.

Besides, doesn't it seem logical for Oldham Co. and Shelby Co. to compete with Trinity rather than Dixie Heights? I live in Louisville, and those schools are closer to me than PRP and Valley! They may not be in Jefferson Co. but to cut them out and paste them into NKY or Lexington doesn't really work (especially since those districts are full!)

Not true.:thumb:

MY BAD on my posting that 02Ram responded in 1 place when he did not respond until the final post. I confused him with Ram95. My apologies

This however does not change the basic facts.

Rockpride started the issue and 02Ram jumped in to dismiss it without followign the thread.

02Ram you DID argue a point that we were NOT addressing

Here it is corrected (I hope i havent confused any other rams)

Well 02,

Rockpride made the original post on this bringing up college teams:

You all are actually satisfied with a diluted championship?

Sounds lovely...

I wish that Texas would've played USC in October, then played Baylor in the Rose Bowl.

I responded with this:

If they were in the same "District: (Big 12, PAC 10, Big 10, SEC)

they WOULD have played in October !!

Ram95 posted this:

Not for the championship.

So I posted several examples of where I felt the other side was wrong:

The point I was trying to make is that sometimes the 2 best teams are in the same "district" [in college that means conference; SEC, PAC10, etc]

So.... they probably play in October - maybe Nov.

Didnt Texas & Oklahoma play as #1 and #2 a couple years ago?

Havent Fla St & Miami beem #1 and #2 playing BEFORE the bowls

Weren't Ohio State and that team up north #1 and #2 many times in the old days for their traditional matchup?

MY point obviously is that the 2 best teams don't traditionally match up always in the final game - they frequently play BEFORE. and you know what... the best team usually wins no matter when they play

So despite my valid and dare I say 100% correct points that 02Ram chose not to acknowledge in any way, 02Ram declared:

You can't use College ball as an analogy. No playoff. It's all subjective.

My points were exactly correct in response to what others posted - as usual:laugh:

Unless they're taking place in PMs, I'll probably interject into any point made on this site when it suits me. And for the record, I was well aware of the 'conversation' (aware enough to know who said what, anyway ;) ) I just got around to throwing my two cents in at that point.
And sometimes those "Districts" are so big you don't play every team. Is that the case in the KHSAA yet???

Come on gt, don't keep changing the issue.

This point was brought up concerning the 2 best teams not playing before the final game in college ball.

I simply showed how it has happened regularly.

It also happens MOST of the time in KHSAA. It's just that some people only want to talk about a couple schools in Louisville.

Sure there have been GREAT games played between them in the finals. But there have been great games played between them at all other times as well.

More importantly, there have been truely GREAT games in 1A, GREAT games in 2A, and GREAT games in 3A finals even though the KHSAA has NEVER set up the brackets to insure what somebody thinks is the 2 best teams in the finals.

Woody Jr

You pointed out it was equal and I show you it isnt. Now you want to argue what is logical. Is it logical in the current alignment there are 4 districts on each side, on the West side there are 6 teams in each district. On the East side the districts are aligned with 8,8,7,7 respectively. If they can be that way with Louisville separate you can easily reverse it and go 8,8,7,7 on the West with all the Louisville schools there and 6,6,6,6 on the East side without them.

I could also point out that Nelson County geographically is East of Jefferson Co. yet they are on the west side of the bracket. Bullitt Co. is due south of Jefferson, they are on the West side of the bracket while those 6 Jefferson schools are on the East side of the bracket.

Shall we continue???

The best two meeting in 4A were people of your same message 20 years ago...

Shall we continue???

Only if the KHSAA keeps listing "travel" as the "problem"...
