T was the bar. The district has been so close that avoiding T until round 3 has been a huge motivator. Under this format, I don't see the same drive for at least a few more years. I have NO DOUBT Trinity has played a MAJOR factor in the increase in quality in this District...

I could see the bar being lowered but I could also see teams with more excitment because they felt like they had a legit shot. I understand where you are coming from though.

This "crowd" actually knows what they are talking about when it comes to 4A, and this is not a good thing for the quality of competition. Manual has not won a State title since the 60's so the end result is not going to change much for us. Not to say this doesn't effect Manual but really my beef is that it effects the whole system and it will have a negitive effect on 4A football overall due to the dynamics of the situation with the city schools and the private school having a dominate effect. Heck I may be wrong and this might be the greated thing since sliced bread, but this is my opinion. And if you are writing off my opinion or the other Manual posters because our school is getting a rougher road to the finals you can do it but you are writing off the opinions of a bunch of guys that played in this district, grew up in this district and who's grandfathers played in this district and that know of what they speak. I was against the split even though my school was for it because I thought it hurt football, and I am against this because I think it will hurt football.

I think it will get to that point, but I see a slight drop while they adjust. With T always "one game away" there was the urgency needed IMO...

Woody, I have begged for a reduction in the number of teams in the playoffs. The 1-4 games are traditionally blowouts and very few 4's win. I dont see any reason to believe this new format will be better or worse. But I lean towards it possibly might make for a few more competitive games. What about those districts where tiebreakers sometimes move teams from top to bottom? It is possible for a #1 to play a #4 they lost to in the regular season. Especially those balanced districts with 6 to 8 teams in them.

If Manual hasnt won since 60 why oppose a different approach. Maybe the previous playoff formats had an adverse effect, maybe not. Why so adament that this is so bad, before we even see it play out?

 

There have been changes throughout the years and without seeing the results of the changes we truly cant make a judgement on what can or cant be good for the game. I honestly dont see this as a major change. You still have to win playoff games to win a title. The best teams find ways to win regardless of the opponent or the week they play them.

All the whining from the 'ville..... however did you guys ever win a game when it was Louisville vs. the state at large? The only thing I see is that you guys have to meet sooner. If that kills this god awful debate over new classes than I'm all for it. I would rather things are left alone, but this is an acceptible compromise to me. I could care less about the gate. This is high school football and the finals should never be played with money at the gate as the underlying motivator. This ain't a buisiness like pro football. It's AMATUER athletics for his sake. May the best team win...

I don't think you understand what we are upset about, the 'Ville isn't worried about winning the title, that will happen anyway, what we are upset about is the best teams will not meet in the finals, they will meet in the regionals. And the other Louisville schools will not get the chance to compete against teams out in the state during the playoffs. And the roads to the championship will not be equal. These will combine to lower the bar and make football less exciting.

How about the fact the "old" system was producing scholarship talent at a rate the "old/new" plan could only dream of. What's best for the adults, right???

For Louisville fans perhaps, but I've seen the exictment at Owensboro Catholic just to get to play at Papa John's even though they have yet to win a title. I think that it just got a whole lot more exciting for the rest of the state as they will now believe that they will have a chance to appear at Papa Johns. A lot of schools will be very excited for this opportunity.

With this argument you look at it totally from your teams perspective. As I said my team has year in and year out had to face NKY in the first round of the playoffs. We have NEVER had that opportunity that you speak of to face any other teams out in the state. Roads to any championship are also NEVER equal. I agree with Woody in the fact that the two best teams normally dont meet for the title anyway. And I cant see that this adjustment can have the devastating effect you seem to think it can have on the state as a whole.
