What kind of argument is that? This will be drawn, not seeded, so it doesn't help that case.

 

The premise you guys argue is you dont get the best teams to the final game. My argument is that you generally dont get the best teams to the finals anyway. If you geographically eliminate teams it is a crap shoot who gets to the final. He was saying that undeserving teams will advance in the playoffs, when in fact it is at least in my opinion better to rotate the region finalists, rather than setting in stone that Russell's region champ always face Belfry's region champ. Reality is that neither way assures that the 2 best teams get to Papa Johns. Heck last season Newport could lay claim they were the 2nd best team in the state since they took Russell to overtime. Yet they had to face them in week 3 of the playoffs. Just as X and T might this season. So Unfair!!!!

The game would in no way have been broadcasted on a Fox Sports network. The national hype over that game would have been reduced. Remember seeing things like that when you were a kid, and how it played a part in your life? I know I do. I would not (like most others) have been there in any other round...

 

If that is your reasoning than it is way premature to determine whether on not that game had the impact you think. I guess we will know in about 10 years.

I sense that most of those seeming to favor this new idea are not even opponents of the big 3. We are looking at it in terms of the whole state - at least I hope we are;)

 

Im perfectly willing change my mind on certain points. As I tried to say elsewhere - I don't believe there is one perfect solution.

 

I just feel like many of the points raised against this idea are based ONLY on how it effects their teams chances. Not all, but a good amount.

It STILL won't ensure that the two best teams meet up in 1-3A, but it takes away the one class that works.

Yes I was reffering to Mayo/Walker. But I'm not an idiot, I know they aren't Kentuckians but were simply looking to exploit the KHSAA rules allowing middle schoolers to play varsity. Thus the inclusion of the bolded word in my post.

Seriously, I don't know probably just a down cycle. Rondo left for Oak Hill so did the kid from Hop Co. Central maybe that part of the problem. Are you suggesting that eliminating the Sweet 16 would improve basketball talent in KY?

There is not a single team in the state, in any class from any area, that can win 3 in a row against the Big 3, all on the road in a playoff enviornment, and still have anything left in the tank (if they can even make it THAT far.)

 

You can paint it as Manual being whiny, or lacking the resolve to do what it takes to win, all you want. But people that seriously follow football in this state will tell you- no team can do it.

I think that Louisville kids do get more notice, and the state in general gets more respect for its football talent, instead of just being seen on a national recruiting scale as a roundball state.

 

Ok so this way maybe kids outside of Louisville get more notice by playing in a championship game. It appears the additude on here is that if it isn't benefiting only Louisville, it isn't good for the state.

Increasing the level of play keeps kids like Rondo from leaving in the first place...

UL seems to have benefited on those kids outside of Jefferson Co quite a bit. How about UK recruiting Lexington???

I've already posted an example, that being Manual (who actually has to play 4 games in a row, but one is not during the playoffs.)

 

Manual has had trouble getting deep in the playoffs, but going from difficult to impossible doesn't help anything- and if you say that their lack of success in the playoffs is proof that a change is needed, then you can say that about any team in 4A. Besides, maybe this would be the year Manual could catch a break and top X in the playoffs... they've already shown they can beat Male and Trinity in intense games (just not with any consistancy.)

 

But under the new system, there's just no WAY. Sure, they still probably have to play the Big 3, but a week off from the murder's row here or there DOES make a difference. Playing the Big 3 every week for a month is worlds apart from getting a game against the Meade Co.'s of the world thrown in for a bit of a breather.

I don't think you understand what we are upset about, the 'Ville isn't worried about winning the title, that will happen anyway, what we are upset about is the best teams will not meet in the finals, they will meet in the regionals. And the other Louisville schools will not get the chance to compete against teams out in the state during the playoffs. And the roads to the championship will not be equal. These will combine to lower the bar and make football less exciting.
