If Manual hasnt won since 60 why oppose a different approach. Maybe the previous playoff formats had an adverse effect, maybe not. Why so adament that this is so bad, before we even see it play out?

 

There have been changes throughout the years and without seeing the results of the changes we truly cant make a judgement on what can or cant be good for the game. I honestly dont see this as a major change. You still have to win playoff games to win a title. The best teams find ways to win regardless of the opponent or the week they play them.

Because it is making matters worse instead of better, that is simple enough. Look I may have never run a 6 minute mile on flat track, but I already know that running it up hill is not going to lower my time. I may never have thrust my hand into a campfire, but I already know it will not feel good. And I know this will not be good for increasing parity in Kentucky 4A football. It is simple as that.

With this argument you look at it totally from your teams perspective. As I said my team has year in and year out had to face NKY in the first round of the playoffs. We have NEVER had that opportunity that you speak of to face any other teams out in the state. Roads to any championship are also NEVER equal. I agree with Woody in the fact that the two best teams normally dont meet for the title anyway. And I cant see that this adjustment can have the devastating effect you seem to think it can have on the state as a whole.

For Louisville fans perhaps, but I've seen the exictment at Owensboro Catholic just to get to play at Papa John's even though they have yet to win a title. I think that it just got a whole lot more exciting for the rest of the state as they will now believe that they will have a chance to appear at Papa Johns. A lot of schools will be very excited for this opportunity.

How about the fact the "old" system was producing scholarship talent at a rate the "old/new" plan could only dream of. What's best for the adults, right???

 

I think that it has more to do with the fact that high school football in KY has evolved in recent years. In West KY when I was in high school I don't remember seeing any schools run a passing offense, but now you see it frequently. I would credit Tony Franklin selling his services to anybody with money more than the playoff structure. That and the trend that athletes tend to concentrate on one sport all year.

 

I really doubt that whether X plays T in the state final or the third round has any relevance on how many players will be offered a scholarship.

I don't think Western Kentucky schools dropping the wishbone or Tony Franklin had that much to do with Barclay, Bush, Brohm, Burton, Urrutia, Jones, and the rest of the talent that has exploded out of Louisville.

You are looking at it from the perspective of your school then I guess because as someone that has followed this district and 4A football for 16 years I think it will have a great effect on 4A football, not limit to just my school. I think it is step BACKWARDS, which is totally predicated on making the road to the championship easier for the 4A county schools and harder for the Louisville schools and so as to split the Louisville public schools from the rest fo the state politcally so as to stop the public private split. (a split I disagreed with from the start mind you) basically it is designed to put you and I at odds and I am not surprised at all, as long as the politician keep the rural area folks fighting with the urban area folks they can do whatever they please. Also I don't care what they do in 1A-3A, if it works better for those classes due to their make up then fine, but let's face facts this was done to stop the public private split and is really about 4A that I am upset, the rest of the classes it is not as big a deal because they have more parity overall then 4A does. The lack of 4A parity is what the public private root problem is about, and parity is healthy for football. That is why 3A is often just as good as 4A or better in my opinion, because parity inspires hope and rivalry. Something 4A lacks.

Not really, it was a great game, but I think your stretching to make a case that this game and these two individual performances have caused the number of Kentucky high school football players to get college scholarships to increase. I haven't seen a change in high school football in the two years since this game. What am I missing?

Why dont they deserve it?

 

If Belfry was the 2nd best team in the state, why dont they deserve to play in the championship game at Papa Johns?

 

Since they had to play Russell in the semi's, we dont know if they possibly werent a TD or 2 better than O Cath.

Where are the basketball stars this state is known for? They are tying to make the Alexander/Couch/Brohm/Bush impact. Ignore it if you want...
