New football playoff format would pit Louisville schools...

Featured Replies

If you don't think that game between two kids now in the Heisman and NFL Draft elite race had an impact on the young people of this state, I have nothing more to say...

Sure it has an impact, but so did Shawn Alexander and he didn't play for a state title. But its not as if that game or the new playoff format is going to render the big 3 irrelevant, so how will anything have changed.

If you believe that this game will cause such an interest in high school football that the rest of the state will be competitive with the big 3, than I hope you are right. But I don't look for this to ever happen.

The KHSAA will make sure of it...

Throw those kids out... ;)

Are you trying to get a Doyle Jr moniker ;)

UL seems to have benefited on those kids outside of Jefferson Co quite a bit. How about UK recruiting Lexington???

Why bring UK into the arguement. If they aren't recruiting quality players in their own backyard than that is there problem.

We are eager to point out how Louisville athletes benefit from playing in the title game against each other, but it wouldn't be a good thing for an athlete from a rural county to get the same opportunity?

I've still yet to see a good explaination as to why this new format will cause a decline in the level of football in the state and a decline in the skill of the individual players. I just don't buy it.

In 4A, the system has been giving us the two best teams in the finals, so I don't see your point. It STILL won't ensure that the two best teams meet up in 1-3A, but it takes away the one class that works.

Does that make sense? I don't think so...

OK.

Let me approach you in a different way. You feel the 4A system is perfect. But I wonder why it is that way now and is it fair for T and X to be put on opposite sides of the bracket? Are any of the Lexington schools separate? Why do we have Louisville schools laid out so they can meet in the finals and not Lexington schools?

My point is that if you set brackets and districts geographically, as they do the rest of the state then the louisville schools truthfully shouldnt be set up in the beginning with the chance to meet in the finals. They should all be on one side of the bracket. But currently in my opinion it is done solely by the KHSAA for the money.

Do you at least agree with this point?

Everyone knows that at this point in time X and T are the two best teams and if they are on opposite sides of the bracket they have that chance to meet. But what happened in 04? Was Scott Co the 2nd best team? That is truly subjective opinion. And if one of these teams slip a bit then you really dont have what you think is a better system. It is the same as the other classes.

All Im looking for is the slightest bit of common ground that maybe this change can be good for the whole state and really not effect Jefferson Co so adversly.

OK.

No, I don't agree AT ALL.

If you look at 4A, Louisville is the logical place to split down the middle. First of all, there are enough 4A teams in Louisville for two districts. There are three districts worth of teams West of Louisville, and three districts worth of teams East of Louisville. Unless the school population data is being altered, there is no vast conspiracy.

I mean, what are you going to do? Pair NKY with schools that are near Bowling Green?

NEXT!!!

Typical response from you. Since you are so quick to dismiss my opinion, how about the courtousy of an explaination. Why will Shawn Alexanders success not make an impact on the youth of Kentucky, especially in the NKY area.

OK.

The problem, and slap in the face, is that is how it was. The "new/old" system has made the state a factor in the big time world of our own kids doing well (see FREE education). A change back to what it was is the issue for most...

You can't use College ball as an analogy. No playoff. It's all subjective.

Well 02,

Rockpride made the original post on this bringing up college teams:

You all are actually satisfied with a diluted championship?

Sounds lovely...

I wish that Texas would've played USC in October, then played Baylor in the Rose Bowl.

I responded with this:

If they were in the same "District: (Big 12, PAC 10, Big 10, SEC)

they WOULD have played in October !!

YOU chose to jump in and post this:

Not for the championship.

So I posted several examples of where I felt you were wrong:

The point I was trying to make is that sometimes the 2 best teams are in the same "district" [in college that means conference; SEC, PAC10, etc]

So.... they probably play in October - maybe Nov.

Didnt Texas & Oklahoma play as #1 and #2 a couple years ago?

Havent Fla St & Miami beem #1 and #2 playing BEFORE the bowls

Weren't Ohio State and that team up north #1 and #2 many times in the old days for their traditional matchup?

MY point obviously is that the 2 best teams don't traditionally match up always in the final game - they frequently play BEFORE. and you know what... the best team usually wins no matter when they play

So in response to my valid and dare I say 100% correct points, YOU now declare:

You can't use College ball as an analogy. No playoff. It's all subjective.

Would you please decide what point it is you want to argue???

Honestly, I give up. I try to speak honestly with respect and this is what you give me.

Maybe there are other counties in Kentucky currently that a school on one side of the county is on the west side of the bracket and another school in the same county is on the east side of the bracket. I dont know. I do know in Class A that Carroll Co is on the west side of the bracket, but Trinity which is west of Carroll is on the East Side of 4A. Dont explain to me about number of schools and such, I know all about it. But I am convinced the layout of districts and brackets initially was to give the possibility of an all Louisville final in 4A.

And sometimes those "Districts" are so big you don't play every team. Is that the case in the KHSAA yet???
I've already posted an example, that being Manual (who actually has to play 4 games in a row, but one is not during the playoffs.)

Manual has had trouble getting deep in the playoffs, but going from difficult to impossible doesn't help anything- and if you say that their lack of success in the playoffs is proof that a change is needed, then you can say that about any team in 4A. Besides, maybe this would be the year Manual could catch a break and top X in the playoffs... they've already shown they can beat Male and Trinity in intense games (just not with any consistancy.)

But under the new system, there's just no WAY. Sure, they still probably have to play the Big 3, but a week off from the murder's row here or there DOES make a difference. Playing the Big 3 every week for a month is worlds apart from getting a game against the Meade Co.'s of the world thrown in for a bit of a breather.

If you're counting regular season games - theres nothing I can do about that. Change your reg season schedule if you dont like it.

Where is the 3rd playoff game against the super powers? The way I read this the first 2 rounds would be intra-division then a draw - thats 2 games?

Woody Jr

Does EKY admit 4A is worth their time???

Sure

Honestly, I give up. I try to speak honestly with respect and this is what you give me.

Then you believe in a vast conspiracy that is altering the population numbers.

It has NOTHING to do with how it relates to other classes.

If you take a map of Kentucky, and put a dot for every high school that makes the 4A limit, the middle point is Louisville. Plain and simple. That's all that matters. Geographically speaking, there are roughly 24 teams East of Louisville, 16 teams in Louisville, and roughly 24 teams West of Louisville that make up the largest 25% of the high schools in Kentucky.

It's that simple. I'm sorry if you think that makes me closed-minded, but it seems pretty cut and dried to me.
