Let me see if I am understanding this correctly, this new proposal, it essentially does away with Regional championships? Am I reading this wrong?

That is what it sounds like to me. At least for those who now have different district opponents in the "blind draw".

They might still technically be called that, but I would say that they're stripped of any meaning.

Basically, you set it up so that there's a district tournament of the top 4 finishers, then the district post season champs play in a random pairing that might be called a regional, but wouldn't really be (if the rotations occur, which they won't in my opinion)

Then are they going to draw for the next round as well?

I do not understand the rationale for the "blind draw" (I realize it is for X and T). The whole playing within district thing, I am not totally unopposed to that, I do not think that will change the landscape very much, rather a shakeup. I realize it negatively effects some teams (i.e. Manual and about 99% of the teams that finish third or fourth in a competitive district), but for a lot of other districts, it makes a lot of sense. I can see the positives and negatives in it, but I do not see it as a huge obstacle.

I think the 3rd and 4th rounds are dependent on the same draw, and as far as a yearly rotation of Semi-state rights when you don't know which teams will be in which region? I think that's mathematically impossible, and another sign that this is a one or two year solution that screws Louisville while it has the chance.

Even in Manual finished 2nd, they'd be in the exact same boat, because none of their opponents would change. There would be no reward for doing so, other than one more home game (agains the opponent they played and beat last week, have fun trying to beat them two weeks in a row!)
Come on guy,

YOu mean you only go watch & support the 4A game?

No I was referring to every game... There are some exceptions, but I think that is the case most of the time...

I see it more of a 1 year test case to see if there will be a lot of gains in $$ by pairing up X and T in the third round... we already know regardless of who is in the 4A title game, it is going to draw a decent crowd.

proposed...

3rd round: huge crowd

4th round: solid crowd

5th round: huge crowd

current....

The difference being, X and T will now keep the gate for their meeting, instead of the KHSAA getting it. So I don't see your point.

I think this is being done as a stop-gap while they work out 5 and 6 classes.

I do not either since you had to point that out :irked: What to bust my conspiracy theory.

:lol:Brain cramp

Again, that's wonderful, but it's not the point.

There are still AAA teams out there that can do it.

There is NO TEAM IN THE STATE IN ANY CLASS OR REGION that could go Manual's route and win a state title. Manual could be the best team in the state, and still WOULD NOT win through that.

That's all there is to discuss.

As far as all these 3A teams that you say "can" do it - Who are these teams?

if you looked at my post about the 3A playoffs the last 20 years there isnt a huge difference in tough roads for certain teams. Certainly the traditional #3 and #4 teams in Cov Cath/Highlands district have it tougher than you. I believe thats 13 of 19 titles from the same DISTRICT and 16 of 20 all from the eastern half of the bracket!! Many many other teams have had a harder road for many more years than you guys.

Actually before you address this new ONE year bracket

perhaps Manual should simply address their utter lack of success up till now in the old set up.

It just seems silly for you guys to freak out about this - it's like putting the cart before the horse. You program has not been able to advance in the playoffs under the old system so it seems that Manual fans would be better served to focus all their energies on doing whats necessary to improve the program for next year when you DO NOT have this terrible gauntlet in front of you [besides, history seems to suggest that you "probably" won't even be successful enough to have to play the 2nd playoff game and almost for sure (by history) you won't even have the chance to try and play that 3rd terrible game.]

So it seems that you folks are complaining about a hypothetical that in all reality you are not good enough to even attempt- right now that is. Hopefully Manual will get to where they are on an even footing with the others

Woody Jr

You keep getting it wrong.

Next year, we WILL have this guantlet in front of us. Please read the article at the top of this thread a little more closely.

As to your other point, I addressed it. Manual has been close, but can't get over the hump against X. They beaten every other team but X, even though they've come close. If Manual could get past X in the playoffs, they would have a shot agaisnt the other teams. They have a chance. But in this case, there is just no chance.

Besides, once again you're showing how you don't follow Louisville 4A.

Manual went through an intense down period when they became the nerd school, going from State Finalist in 1988 to a decade-long stint as local whipping boy. Things have been turned around in the last 5 years, and we're rebuilding a program with more tradition than almost any other in the state (2 National Titles, thank you.)

The current Manual program should be judged from 2001 onward, with Joe Nichols begining his term as head coach. Since then we've been knocked out by current district foes three of our four trips to the playoffs.

Wow! I just thought of something else.

OK, this year under this format think about Class 4-A, District Four

Say St. X wins and Male second (could be either way I guess but this is hypothetical.......)

The next seed from Manual, Butler, PRP - holy smokes they would have to play Male, St. X and then likely Trinity

And that would just get them to the semifinals!!!!!

Like I said in another thread, welcome to North Hardin, John Hardin, Meade and the rest of that districts world. That is what they have dealt with for years. You had to beat Male, St. X and if you got to the finals, Trinity.
