New football playoff format would pit Louisville schools...

Featured Replies

OK, I did the leg work, anyway you slice and dice it, geographically the 4A districts and regions are fair and proper IMO. If you don't believe it, do the leg work. I never supported the current alignment, cause in my ignorance, I thought it had to have been better before. Well, it wasn't. This is geographically speaking the correct districts and regions IMO. Also, ther are 3 western ky 4A districts and two Louisville 4A districts. There is no good way to make all of Louisville in one side of the bracket. Even though many people want them to be.

Told ya so... :p

I tend to get right to the point... ;)

Hey Tubby, will R3D2 play for the Golden Triangle in the Regional Finals???

Mark him well, ye unbelievers!

I came by my opinion the same way you did, Sandman, trying to make it work. It doesn't. You can force the square peg in the round hole, but it isn't pretty.

A further point:

What does TBF's bracket HELP?

Does it reduce driving distance? NO. Many teams have to drive further than before. Overall, there is much greater distances involved with these unnatural pairings.

Does it preserve natural opponents? NO. Henederson versus Owensboro. Nelson County versus John Hardin (No matter what you want to think about Bardstown and where it is located, it's just about due South from my house.)

Does it keep districts coherent? NO. Put these schools up on a map, and you'll see that some schools are torn away, geographically, from the districts that make sense. That are viable in the current district alignments.

So what DOES it help? It puts Louisville on one side of the state. It doesn't help anything else, it hurts other important aspects of making logical district pairings, but if that's the only thing that matters, I guess it's a smashing success...

I used a county map of the state of Kentucky, looked into the schools locations and put together a layout of 30 teams in the west side and 24 in the East, EXACTLY as the KHSAA has it now except I flip flopped the 30 in the East and 24 in the West, as it currently is. I also kept the same breakdown of number of schools in each district. You guys talk about 7 and 8 teams in a district and that IS the way it is NOW. If I was going to lay out a perfect scenerio I would have altered it, but I wanted to show how easy it was geographically to put all of the Louisville schools in one side without spliting them. You guys cant argue about sending Simon Kenton out of a N.KY. District with a straight face and then say that Jefferson Co can be split in an East and West bracket? Give me a break.

You talk about the current setup is how it should be. I can point out several items, but to me the most glaring is just

as my buddy 02Ram54 said is STUPID. How about Barren Co. being in the same district with Graves??? What about 200 miles? Why not have then in with the Hardin's district which is roughly 50 or 60 miles.

We can set here and pick apart every layout of the state, the KHSAA, Mine, Ram, whoever. There will always be some things like my above example that make you scratch your head. In Class A Raceland and Fairview both have Paintsville and Pikeville roughly an 1:15 to 1:45 apart, yet they play Berea, Paris, Nicholas, and Lex Christian with all of these pushing 2 plus hours away. I never said the layout I show was perfect, nor advocating it. Just saying that it is every bit as good as the current and places the teams basically as the KHSAA in the same numbers they use but I have shifted the Louisville schools to the West together. Geographically my layout is every bit as good or better than what is currently in place. IN MY OPINION.

I feel the brackets I laid out are every bit as viable as the current KHSAA. And I did the leg work and posted it.

What do you feel is the glaring problem with my district layout? Lets talk about it.:thumb:

Why can't they? In terms of 4A geography, Louisville is the midpoint of the state.

Heck, you have Barren County and Graves County in the same district.

We can set here and pick apart every layout of the state' date=' the KHSAA, Mine, Ram, whoever. There will always be some things like my above example that make you scratch your head. In Class A Raceland and Fairview both have Paintsville and Pikeville roughly an 1:15 to 1:45 apart, yet they play Berea, Paris, Nicholas, and Lex Christian with all of these pushing 2 plus hours away.[/quote']Kentucky isn't a very densely-populated state. If we insist on four classes and eight districts in each class with roughly an equal number of teams, that's going to happen.

The reason Raceland is in the district with those teams, perhaps, is that the rest of the Paintsville-Pikeville district would present some frightful travel scenarios.

I never said the layout I show was perfect' date=' nor advocating it. Just saying that it is every bit as good as the current and places the teams basically as the KHSAA in the same numbers they use but I have shifted the Louisville schools to the West together. Geographically my layout is every bit as good or better than what is currently in place.[/quote']I strongly disagree. These are some problems I see with it ...

1. Greenwood and Warren Central, one of which was formed by a split of the other, are in different districts.

2. You have Henderson County in District 2, while Owensboro, Apollo and Daviess County (all to the east) are in District 1. Henderson would travel through Owensboro to get to all of their district rivals.

3. You have Barren County, which is east of Warren Central, in District 1 with the Dragons in District 2.

4. Manual is misspelled ... not a big deal but I'm surprised the Ram Bros. haven't squawked about it.

5. The northern Kentucky schools, all natural rivals and perfect to be in one district, are split.

6. Oldham County and Shelby County, both of which fit much better with the Louisville schools, are instead shuttled off to a Lexington area-northern Kentucky district.

7. Clark County is in with the Lexington schools. Montgomery County, due east on I-64, has to drive through that district to get to the teams with which they are grouped.

In summary, it looks exactly like what it is ... an alignment designed to load up one side of the state.

The reason there are more teams in the east side of the bracket is that, as a general rule, the eastern half of the state is more densely populated with 4A schools.

4. Manual is misspelled ... not a big deal but I'm surprised the Ram Bros. haven't squawked about it.

In a thread in the general discussion forum about favorite sayings on BGP, I stated mine as being "Manuel". I followed that by saying it will now be abused in the football thread.

Though I'd guess it was an unintentional error in this case.

I'm trying to do the geography..... I'll get back when I figure this one out. I can't imagine it would impact teams worse than they already are, but I'll try and draw it out.

The one thing all of you fail to acknowledge is that you can't control where schools are built. It's like the assinine argument about Corbin being in the West. Trouble is, there aren't very many teams in the West in the current AA, so sometimes, teams end up in different areas. Look at 3A. To use the East West system purely, how could you have Boyle in the West, but Danville in A East? That's why it can't be East West. Face it, we live in a state that is not a pure rectangle, and its schools are not evenly disputed. So everyone will be able to find fault with some geographic issue, when in fact, you just need to keep one thing in mind.

It takes two games to win a district title, 3 to win a region, and 5 to win a state. It doesn't really matter what order in which the games are played. So everyone will favor, in most cases, what helps their particular situation.

Why can't they? In terms of 4A geography, Louisville is the midpoint of the state.

5. The northern Kentucky schools, all natural rivals and perfect to be in one district, are split.

On the first part above ....

I believe the federal government has a nice picture that could be considered in this discussion. Please checkout the link below:

On the 2nd part from above about Northern KY ........

"all natural rivals and perfect to be in one district" - you mean like the Louisville area that is now currently split as if they are 2 seperate halves of our state?

Doesn't your statement support others feelings that maybe its NOT an obvious fact that splitting the natural rivals in Lou into 2 halves of the state where they can only meet if they play and beat every other school in the state?

(that 2 Lou schools have met in the finals a high % of the time is well known but does not change these facts)

Woody. Make your argument for NKY being the midpoint in the state and get back to me...

Don't know what the midpoint is. Just offering thoughts re; others who are "positive" they know exactly how it should be.

I dont think there is a 100% answer to the various alignments - thats why no matter what is used someone will cry

True, People will cry even if it is 100% black and white the right thing. I don't think you can worry about that. But then, most people won't take the time that we are to debate or look into this either. ;)
