I still don't see it. I would hope that guys would want to play football and dedicate themselves to the sport for the love of the game, their school and their teammates ... not because some convoluted "blind draw" might give them an easier route to the state finals.

That's the thing. X and T are not the only 2 teams that play 4A football in ky. They will get the needed exposure because of their history. If other teams start to play on the carpet, and a few upsets happen, not only will kids across the state that play 4A get off of just wanting to make it to semi's, but start to actually believe in their own version of Friday Night Lights and for one championship game, leave it all on the field in front of thousands win or lose. Before this year, the T/X regular season game pretty much told you who was gonna win 4A. Guess that security blanket is going to go away.

99 was the first year of 2 for gino and company. don't get me wrong, i did not say they weren't talented. Just saying that their were 2 guaranteed and borderline 3 or 4 teams on our schedule that had more talent. some were restricted by coaching styles, while others by discipline in the program and sometimes both.

2 were better, the other 2 were in question. If you must know, and others will agree. Bryan Station was a better team. Henry Clay was a better team. Tates Creek some would consider, had more speed and talent. Power-I negated alot of the speed they had. Madison Central was more comparable, but ran the wing-t.

BS- J.T. Haskins, Eric Shelton and co.

HC- Shane Boyd, Zia Combs and co.

TC- Mian Smith, Greg Baltimore and co.

MC- Tee Parks, Ryan Jones and co.

 

The first three were equally as fast per roster as the other one. MC was disciplined.

 

Again, what league. This posting is not about who won a state title, because you should know as a HHS fan. The most talented teams do not always win, their are other factors.

The Lexington teams and others have had that same opportunity for years now. They're not losing to Trinity simply on talent.

 

So giving them an "easier" road is going to inspire them? I just don't see it. As far as I can tell, the kids are already working hard and trying to win.

They have to beat up on each other, then the winner of that has to play a round of smashmouth football usually with scott co., finally have to play pass and catch with the likes of T. The Lou. teams however have to play? X plays Male, but that's about it. Like it is said, the big 3. The rest of Lou. tends to accept that in 4A and now they're all in the same pot. From the rest of the state's point of view, seems pretty fair. Besides, you really don't hear the fan base from NKY complaining, or X and T.

You are right on the talent part, because I've seen teams in Lex. with more talent than X and T both. Sometimes it is other factors like egos, coaching decisions, etc. and I give credit to the schools that are able to deal with that. This is about a long shot deal. If this were last year and say that X beat T, and then didn't escape the Hardin matchup by 1pt., then you wouldn't have had a Lou. team in the finals at all. I think this scenario is what alot of people who oppose this new proposal are afraid of. That won't mean that football has decline, just that other teams have gotten better.

Now you are showing that you really know little about football in Jefferson County. I do not expect people to know how the district is in Louisville as I do not know near enough about football in Lexington. Most everybody "in the know" in High School football knows that the balance of strength in Jefferson County makes this a very tough district, not "just St. X playing Male". For most of the past 5-6 years there have been "dogfights" between the likes of St. X, Male, Manual, Butle, PRP. It was only 3 years ago that Butler got to week nine undefeated before losing a close game to St. X. Manual has not beaten St. X since 1988 (I believe) but there have been several close games that went down to the wire in the past few years as has been the case with Male (only beating Male once in the past 5 years). PRP has been a contender for years even before Coach Wolfe took over as HC, last season was just a preview of things to come out of Pleasure Ridge. They were in the game with Male, Manual, & St. X, losing by less than 7 points in 2 of those games.

 

Anyone that thinks that this level of competition DOES NOT take a negative toll on a bunch of High School players is not thinking straight. It is physically and mentally taxing to prepare for this in 4-5 straight weeks. The teams that come out of this meatgrinder can lick their wounds and hope to withstand the tough competition from the likes of John Hardin, North Hardin, Meade County, Nelson County. I am well aware that there are more districts out there with similar circumstances but to just disregard this district as St. X vs. Male is LUDICROUS! Hoping to not sound arrogant as all us Louisvillians seem to be, I have been around football for a very long time as a coach and to prepare these kids for a tough team week in and week out is challenging to say the least. Come off a big win against one of these teams and trying to take that intensity into the next week or two trying to "get up" for another powerhouse is very tough. On the other hand, lose a very close, emotional game to one and the next few weeks can be unbearable. If St. X loses to Trinity in their regular season matchup, it hurts the pride but not the playoff chances of either team. I am sure it is an emotional strain for both teams playing this game in the middle of the season and trying to "rebound" and finish their districts but luckily it does not impact their playoff hopes.

In earlier posts, you were maintaining that other teams would work harder to get to Louisville if they knew Trinity and St. Xavier might not be in their path. Now you're saying that if two non-Louisville teams reach the finals, it means football has gotten better out in the state.

 

You seem to be trying to have it both ways.
