I agree. Everything has been uphill coaching at Dayton since he got there; nothing has come easily. IMO, Dayton is fortunate to have someone like him there. People can talk about the record all they want, but there's been MANY challenges.

I agree . I had a very close friend , that coached baseball at Dayton high school several years ago . He shared many stories of the challenges he dealt with being a smaller school and some of the discipline issues.

They find the offense and defense that work for their personnel. They make halftime adjustments that work. Mediocre coaches do none of these. What category does Coach Montgomery fall into? He is not achieving past the problems. he is not building a program.

Has anyone heard what the timeline may be for interviews and a hire? Seems like whomever gets the job would want to start as soon as possible.

Earning a PE Credit in front of a computer just doesn't feel right.

 

Having met quite a few BGP'ers in the last year, I think it's safe to say that online is not a physical activity worthy of any type of PE credit.

 

Now, it may play well in the DRAMA department, but not PE.

The problems there are much past the coach. You can successfully recruit your hallways for about a week then the kids find out the work required isn't for them. Show up, Recruit Hallways, Make adjustments, The theory sounds good but too many variables are involved.

For the sake of the Dayton kids, I surely hope the coach does not believe any of this.

I don't think you can hold someones record at Dayton against them, Steve Lickert wasn't exactly setting the world on fire there and he has done great. Coaches shouldn't be punished for coaching in tough jobs. Chances are nobody would have done much better there.

Lickert won 13 games in 3 years at a school that had won less than a handful in the half dozen years before and then the team that he left (built) won 8 games and was ranked in the top 10 in the state. That was quite an accomplishment and his move up the coaching ladder was undoubtedly warranted.

It's very easy to say to build a culture at a small school, but you have to have buy in and good attitudes from your players as well. It's not like these coaches can just throw in the next guy if one isn't doing what he should and he will have anywhere near as much talent. In some cases in these schools, there is no 'next guy.' It's a one man depth chart at some positions... When you have 20-25 kids playing a game where you field 11, that's how it goes.

I agree entirely, I would have liked to have seen him got the Beechwood job. I want to think he applied for it before Rash got it, not that Rash hasn't done a great job. But I do think Montgomery has done a fine job with the hand he has been dealt. He had Beechwood down at Halftime at Dayton and that is an accomplishment in itself.

There's only so much coaches can do; when the numbers aren't there, they simply aren't there. I'm not sure how many are aware, but last year's senior class at Dayton graduated 36 or 37 students. I don't know what the numbers are like for this coming class, but I'm sure the amount isn't substantially different.

When did Montgomery have Beechwood down at Halftime? The only year I could think of when they may have happened was when Dayton won 8 games and he was not the head coach that year.

2012 ... Beechwood turned the ball over 2 or 3 times and Dayton did a good job making plays on 3rd down. If I recall, Beechwood scored 4 TD's in about 6 plays to start the second half and won the game 50 something to 14 or 20. But yes, Dayton was leading at halftime.

Any word on a coach or interviews? It has been almost a month. Seems like they would want to get the new coach started asap.

It's now April, I can't believe schools still have open jobs this long. Have they even started interviewing or anything. Anyone have any inside info.
