Bellevue posts opening for Head Football Coach

Featured Replies

On the Bellevue High School website it shows an opening for a Head Football Coach as of March 2nd.

Any ideas as to what the situation is?

Why are they just now posting the opening? The fact that Poynter was out has been talked about on here for several weeks.

I really feel for these players. Why can't they get a head coach that will last more than one year, two years is almost a miracle. Yes they have Beechwood in their district, but Bellevue is always is a very good 1A team. Is something running these guys off that has other things to do besides on the field? Bellevue goes through head coaches faster than the Cleveland Browns go through quarterbacks. Not good.

This surprises me I've personally got to deal with the administration at Bellevue and had no issues whatsoever honestly probably the best I dealt with. Kids and all no issues in my stent there! Any names yet on applicants?

Got a long time ball coach running the show, I know that.

How many jobs has Poynter had in the last 15 years? that may be a clue.

Him leaving Bourbon wasn't on his terms. With that said, I have no clue. Trimble, Bourbon and Bellevue are the only ones I know of. If those are the only 3, then that's really not that many for this day and age.

Was he at Clay at one point?

From KHSAA-

02-04 Pike Co Cent 3 Years

05-08 Trimble Co. 4 Years

09-11 Bourbon Co. 3 Years

12-14 Bellevue(1 year as asst.) 3 Years

Looks like he left most those programs better than he found them, but in a earlier thread someone said he drove 3 hours round trip a day, hard to get ingrained in a community doing that.

Doesn't he have a sick relative that he is caring for that requires some long drive times?

If that indeed is the case, shouldn't he be caring for his relative instead of coaching?

Probably a low paying job also?

Could have been a mixture of having to take a job when it is offered if he was not renewed at Bourbon Co prior to Bellevue. You do what you have to do in order to put food on the table. If the commute was that long then I feel for the guy. I met Coach Poynter at the Bellevue Football Golf outing last year and he seemed like a pretty good dude.

They lose 7 Sr's of which I think 6 were their key players so the cupboard being somewhat empty next year couldve also been a reason.

I'd like to see a former Bellevue Tiger player come in and take over the program. Get some of that old Tiger tradition back. They unfortunately have a limited selection of boys in the school. It is a far cry from when I played there in the late 80's. We had 14 Sr's I believe my Sr year and now they are lucky they get 23-24 kids on the roster.

Bellevue would be a good job. Yes there is always Beechwood but every 10 years or so Bellevue has a team that can compete with them. Small school great community support. As it stands now 2nd best 1A school in NKY. Decent facilities for such a small school. Need to find a young head coach and teacher who will stay for a long run and good things can happen. Beat Dayton stay above .500 every season and people will be happy in Bellevue

The 2 past seasons they have had a good passing team. They lost about 7 Seniors and return about 18 kids that played last year.
