Steve Beuerlein: ‘Dalton’s Play Spoke Volumes’

Recommended Posts

"And then there’s Andy Dalton. The Cincinnati quarterback turned in yet another postseason clunker on Sunday, finishing an uninspired 18-of-35 for 155 yards in a 26-10 loss to the Colts in Indianapolis. The Bengals were held scoreless in the second half, as Kevin Huber punted eight times for 380 yards.

“At this time of year, your quarterback doesn’t necessarily have to go out and win the ball game every time if you’re on a good team, but he’s got to play well to give you a chance to win,” Beuerlein said. “But the numbers and the lack of any kind of spark in that offense yesterday – and especially in the second half when they had to get it done – it just, to me, spoke volumes. This is a $100-million quarterback you got right there that just didn’t step up and make any plays at any point in that ball game. You can make all the excuses in the world. You can say A.J. Green wasn’t there. You can say Gresham wasn’t there. The bottom line is, you still got to find a way to make plays – and Dalton didn’t do that at all yesterday.”

Dalton is now 0-4 in the playoffs."

Serious question: Do you guys think starting 5 new threads bashing Dalton and Marvin every day is going to make Mike Brown get rid of them?

No, but as Alan Cuttler likes to say, " It just feels good " " on a tough day to be a Bengals fan." How big of a Clown is this guy. No Way he gets paid in money from the Bengals, he's the worst.

Dalton needs to take some of that money and spend it on someone like Jon Gruden or David Cutcliffe Everything from footwork to throwing accuracy to decision making has to be improved. A second stud reciever to take the double coverage off of Green would be helpful also..

Here is the problem with all of this. What is the one big thing that everyone talked about in the off season? That's right the Bengals need to be a running team and allow Dalton to just be a game manager. However we see how people react when Dalton is not more than just a game manager, and need him to make special plays for the team. People talked about how Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson won super bowls as a game manager and that is what people wanted Dalton to be. Well those two QB's had defenses that were shut down defenses those years. Those guys played on team that stayed pretty healthy and had there best players still playing. Now though people are complaining because Dalton didn't step up and make plays even though the people that were suppose to help him out weren't even playing.

If people want Dalton to be a top QB, then yes he has completely failed and failed in the playoff game too. If people want him to be a game manager, then he played basically as well as a game managing QB can play when he has no one to throw to. I am perfectly fine with people who say we need a new QB to get over the top, because it may be true. However I just find it funny that a lot of the same people who talked about how they wanted him to be a game manager, they still complain about his play in a game when he does exactly that. However if a QB is going to be a game manager, then the rest of the team has to play great.

Dalton wasn't even a game manager. A Game manager is capable of getting a few first downs now and then.

He did exactly that. As said for a team to win with a game manager at QB, they need the defense to play great, and other players on offense to step up and make plays. Did any of that happen? Nope. Dalton protected the ball and did for the most part hit open guys when they were open, except on two passes. He played exactly like a game manager should. As much as you all complain about everything, its like you all expect him to make the throws as a very good QB. When you all have even said you wanted him to be a game manager. Which is exactly what Dilfer and Johnson were. Wouldn't make great throws for big plays, and were content to protect the ball and be ok with a punt.

Protecting the ball isn't going 3 and out just about every single time. You do realize the Bengals didn't get their first 1st down in the second half until 11 mins left in the 4th qtr.

Going 3 and out isn't a game manager, you can get anyone off the street to go 3 and out.

We also know he isn't a very good QB and that is what you have wrong also. A very good QB isn't the only QB that can thorw a complete pass downfield when your reciever is open by a mile. You are acting like only very good QB's can throw the ball 10 yards downfield. I can throw the ball 10 yards downfield, does that make me a Very Good QB?

Again, Dalton has not completed A SINGLE PASS 15yds or further downfield since Dec 7th, 17 qtrs and counting. A bad QB can at least do that....Dalton hasn't.
