After they got rolling last night Oregon looked like the best team in the nation. Playing scary good right now.

Beating KSU will boost Baylor's SOS.

 

I doubt that will sway the committee. If a head to head won't do it. SOS won't. They're hell bent on TCU.

Ohio State jumps in and ends the Baylor/TCU debate.

Ohio State is going to make this extremely hard on the committee. If Florida State doesn't lose, they're going to have a problem. Even moreso if they win only by 1-2 scores over a good Georgia Tech team while Ohio State annihilates Wisconsin. Some of the consensus that I've read indicates they think it would be TCU that would get shafted and not TCU, but I mean, how? How is that going to not make the committee look even more ridiculous than they already do if they drop TCU two spots after doing nothing more than blowing out the opponent in front of them one week after the committee inexplicably decided to boost them up to 3 for doing the same thing?

 

It's the first year, so I recognize the concept of "making it up as they go" seems apt considering that they have no subset, but their criteria has shifted seemingly every week with no uniform application. My belief is they boosted TCU to #3 simply to avoid the controversy they were facing with Baylor. They wanted to put a definitive gap so they didn't have to worry about it, and that blew up in their face. They've created a situation where it feels like judging by their blowing in the wind stances that Ohio State should jump FSU, but how can they do that to a team that would be undefeated in a power 5 conference and coming off a win over their #11 team?

 

This committee has been by and large an abject failure and they have a monster headache on their hands year 1. No, 8 teams is not an acceptable answer because in all likelihood controversy will always follow a body that cannot keep straight what it really takes to make the playoffs.

What OSU is doing to Wisconsin is illegal in most states. I would not want to be on that committee tonight. No matter what they do, many people will be very upset. This is a year where there are 6 teams that have a strong claim for the 4 spots. We need an 8 team playoff at least.

I definitely see that top 3 order if FSU wins. My conspiracy theory belief is that they essentially made a geographic decision in promoting TCU last week, placing the two easternmost teams in the Sugar Bowl and the two westernmost in the Rose Bowl. It makes sense to me that if they drop TCU from the four (or even if they didn't drop them past 4) that they would boost Oregon to #1 (as they should be) and keep Bama and FSU paired.

 

But again, as I ranted, this is what they get for the stupid decision of promoting TCU the way they did last week.

This. I have a hard time going with more than 8, but 4 teams in is not gonna get it done. 16 may be too many, but it would still be better than 4. 8 is ideal IMO.

A couple commentators today said, OSU should be in and Baylor/TCU should be left out, simply because the Big 12 does not have a championship game.

I'm not an OSU fan by any means, but if they don't get in there is obviously a problem. To me it should be Bama, Oregon, FSU, and OSU, in no particular order. If they only want to let four teams in, they may as well pick the four and have a lottery to decide seeding. At this point you could make a case for any of them to be the number one seed.

OSU should be on over TCU/Baylor.

1) Alabama

2) Oregon

3) Florida State

4) Ohio State

I thought they said at the end of the FSU/GT game just now that Florida State was the only one of the teams in the mix to play all 12 of their games against the 5 "power conference" teams.

You can't convince me that OSU isn't one of the four best teams in the country. Been saying that for a long time.
