Re: Baylor/TCU, I'm curious who on here remembers (and for some are even old enough to remember) the controversy behind FSU and Miami way back in 2000. If you remember that situation, was your opinion different on who deserved the BCS title game spot? Because I remember a whole lot of people saying Miami should get it because they won the head to head.

Even if you then add in a few points for Baylor's win over TCU, it doesn't make up for getting embarrassed on the road by a West Virginia team that lost five games this year.

If we still had BCS, does FSU not play in title game this year? And if TCU struggles this weekend but wins, any chance OSU or Baylor jump them?

So how are the numbers for the SOS determined? Who is creating those numbers? There has to be some kind of human interaction into the getting the numbers.

 

There is. While it is a formula, there are factors within it from human rankings.

 

Assuming the SOS formula is the same as it was under the BCS system, rankings have nothing to do with Strength of Schedule and there is no human involvement (other than the fact that some human(s) created the formula to be used).

 

You simply take 2/3 of a teams opponents' win % and 1/3 of your opponents' opponents' win % and add them up.

Most of those involve several games at both teams' home sites. In football that can't happen so we do the best we can. That being the case, I'd prefer a better tiebreaker that takes an entire season into account.

 

For what it's worth, I couldn't care any less who wins the Big XII title. I'm trying to use statistics to figure out who the best four teams are and by any measure I can come up with, TCU is better than Baylor at this point in the season.

IF they have the chance, does anyone think Baylor won't pull out all the stops to win as big as possible, including trick plays even if they have something like a 21 point lead? They really have to leave all compassion at the door.

I'm getting worn out on this subject so I am done after this post. I do see all your points and TCU may be better than Baylor right now - no way to know for sure. I just cannot past the fact that IF Baylor beats KSU this week, the two teams will be very close by almost every statistical measure and they play a very similar schedule. How they did against each other just means much more to me than how they did against West Virginia.
