In the short term (less than a year I would guess) you are correct but if gas were to be above $5 going forward, in the long term (more than a year) I think you would see people trending more towards smaller cars and also, when it comes to buying homes or moving to a new apartment, how close that new house or apartment is to their place of work will be considered more so than before.

Gas seems to be cheaper in TN then KY. Was in Nashville last Friday. It was about $.20 cheaper then here.

Doesn't matter if we use less when their product is worth 6x what it was during peak use. We are screwed in our lifetime they have us and know it, hoping for change in my children's lifetime. 3.50 gas doesn't even draw news headlines now, it's accepted.

I go through about a tank of gas per week. That's 20 gallons, at say even $4 per gallon...so 80 bucks a week. For a full year, that's nearly $4,200. So, say I get a "newer" vehicle that doubles my gas mileage...that cuts my annual gas costs to $2,100. But, if the new vehicle costs me even just $10k...it'll still take 5 years for it to pay for itself!!! While it's not something that I look forward to...it's just easier right now to bite the bullet and pay the higher prices.

This is the part of Gas pricing I just don't understand. You can even see .20 differences in the next town over. For a long time, gas in Florence was regularly .10-.15 cheaper than what you could get it for in Kenton County. I can still remember when I first moved out here in 1998. I had a meeting in Indy and bought gas there for .68/gallon. And it wasn't all that long ago that it had briefly dipped below $2.00/gallon. The cheapest I've gotten gas in the last few years was when I was traveling to New Orleans and got gas for $2.69 in Mississippi.
