If a politician is will to regulate an industry THAT strictly just to garner enough votes to get into office... what else is he willing to do? The answer to that question would probably scare the devil out of me.

I'd be willing to bet the right person could sway a ton of voters with this one objective, if they could prove their theory. And if it works, a lot of people should be answering some really tough questions.

Makes sense gas effects people weekly.

Get five economists in a room and you'll get eight different opinions. For me, I don't see how prices don't go up short-term with the sudden availability of markets in which fuel is in even higher demand than it is here. Long-term... different story... and much more unpredictable.

But shouldn't MORE crude on the market make the price of crude go down. That argument seems to be counter-intuitive to the Econ Classes I took. But I don't claim to be an Economics expert but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn and I did take the classes at EKU.

Absolutely not. We have enough Marxists in our federal government.

Short term it goes up since they'll ship it off to booming markets in Asia. Long term... you may be right, because opening up new markets (all other things being equal -- though they never are) should spur production. But even if the U.S. ends the ban, we have to make a lot of other moves.

I am not. I'm a big fan of social programs that aid the people left behind in a system that doesn't reach everyone. It's the great inherent flaw in a system that's the best we've ever come up with at growing wealth for the greatest number of people possible... and a lot of that is because capitalism isn't a system unto itself: it's the natural consequence of a world in which people can conduct business as they please.

 

So no, I don't want to nationalize, socialize or do anything else to the oil industry except make it easier for them to conduct business as they please.

 

I believe in effective social welfare programs for those left behind in the system; I'm also very wary of such programs and believe we should choose them carefully then ensure that they are constantly monitored so we know they're doing the things we want them to do.

Venezuela has an effective gas price of less than .05 cents per gallon, wouldn't .05 gasoline help those that are struggling as much or more than raising the minimum wage or another program. If I could save $100+per week filling up two tanks of gas that would be huge. That guy that drives out more than a tank of gas going to work each week would effectively be earning $2-3 more per hour depending on how much gas he currently uses to get back and forth to work.

 

Wouldn't .05 cent gasoline help the travel industry, allow families to take more vacations and spur the economy. $5200 back in the pocket of each family every year in fuel savings sounds like a good way to help those "That have been left behind"

 

C'mon let's get behind nationalizing the Gas Pumps!!! Take it out of the hands of the greedy fat cat CEO's!!!

Gas is moving to 3.95 today.

Gas here just jumped .35 cents...Speedway was the first to go up.

$4.19 here in Ohio by work, get ready here it comes.

And what is the crisis today? All that is right, GREED. The media is so good that we can now tell the population when the price is going to go up and how much. And we wonder why the economy continues to struggle.
