March 13, 201412 yr Is there something going on in this world that I am not aware of? Went to my local Kroger about 5:30 yesterday afternoon and purchased gas for $ 3.54 a gallon. Went back down around 8:00 and gas was now $ 3.75 a gallon. Asked the clerk if these prices were right and what the cause was and she said my boss told me to raise the price. Went by the same station at 6:40 this morning and price was now $ 3.64. What gives and do not give me the supply and demand bit.
March 13, 201412 yr In Maysville the price yo-yos but there is usually a pattern. It will increase by 18 or 20 cents; then over the course of the next 2 weeks or so it will drop bit by bit to where it was just before it jumped. Then it will jump again. Lather, rinse and repeat.
March 13, 201412 yr I really don't pay any attention to gas prices but I was shocked when I filled up yesterday and it was like $65. It's been a while since it was that expensive.
March 13, 201412 yr I don't even pay attention to gas prices anymore. I have to have it to work/survive, and there's nothing I can do about the prices.
March 13, 201412 yr I was in Louisville yesterday for work and had to get gas and it was only $3.34..I come back to NKy and it is .25 higher.. Makes no sense!!
March 13, 201412 yr $3.75 by my house. Wife has 80 miles left to go. She is going to try something down on the AA highway in Wilder which is often cheaper.
March 13, 201412 yr Time for the Fed to step in and regulate pricing. Big Oil has gone crazy with this nonsense.
March 13, 201412 yr It's called greed. I've commented on this 100s of times. Absolutely has nothing to do with supply and demand. If you could get almost 4 dollars from something why let it go for 2? Oil is also down 3 dollars but gas went up .40 cents makes perfect sense.
March 13, 201412 yr Time for the Fed to step in and regulate pricing. Big Oil has gone crazy with this nonsense. Yeah that sure fixed the rising cost of healthcare. Edited March 13, 201412 yr by HammerTime
March 13, 201412 yr Yeah that sure fixed the rising cost in healthcare. Unfortunately true. Price regulation generally results in higher prices or shortages such as the housing shortages NY City used to have until price regulations were eased.
March 13, 201412 yr Time for the Fed to step in and regulate pricing. Big Oil has gone crazy with this nonsense. Ummmm NO! I hate gas prices as much as the next guy but Fed price fixing is not the answer. Unless you want to go back to the days of gas lines or rationing
March 13, 201412 yr Time for the Fed to step in and regulate pricing. Big Oil has gone crazy with this nonsense. What it's time for Congress to do is step back in and take its foot off the neck of innovation. There are strict regulations bordering on outright bans of the export of both crude oil and liquefied natural gas. Those restrictions have kept petroleum prices artificially low in the United States for decades. Now as the trade of those items become more and more globalized, we simply can't escape the price increases like we used to. And during all those decades, since gas prices were artificially low, energy and car companies had zero incentive to invest on their own in fuel efficiency or alternative energy products since a protectionist government was all over the industry. It's time to let American ingenuity and innovation take over and let the gas prices rise. End the restrictions on exports and let the markets take over. It'll also have an effect on our little situation with Russia as increased American exports (we're going to be the world's largest producer of petroleum on the planet within the next decade if current trends continue) will actually LOWER fuel prices in abroad even if they rise in the U.S.
March 13, 201412 yr Is there something going on in this world that I am not aware of? Only if you haven't been watching the news. Speculation over Russia's exports of oil and natural gas since the beginning of the political crisis in Ukraine are sending fossil fuel prices into a worldwide frenzy. Libya's main port for the export of oil has seen production drop by over 75 percent since the civil war worsened late last year and have fallen to almost zero since a group of rebels took over the port in February. Higher prices outside the U.S. and the increased ease with which refined fossil fuels can be transported has led American companies to push more product toward Asia, South America and Europe.
March 13, 201412 yr Author Honestly do not watch the news. Like how websites can put out information about price increases before they happen as can the media. I agree with many on here and that this is all about greed. It is much like insurance in that we need it so we can charge whatever we like and the public will have to live with it. The economy we live in today is going to do nothing for the generations that follow. A small population will control everything and the remainder will simply try and live day to day.
