Liver and Onions: Are you a fan?

Featured Replies

That's one "old-school" dish I don't miss at all. Ugh.

Not even close to a fan. Was forced to eat it as a kid, haven't had it in probably 30 years, and have no plans on revisiting.

No! Turrible.

:thumb: it's a treat I have once or twice a year at my parents house. My wife refuses to make it.

Grandma used to make us eat it. You knew as soon as you walked in the house it was going to be liver and onions. Yuck!!

Here's my expansive OTT answer to the L & O question.

For starters I've never had it, and never will...

When I was 6 years old I came down with a severe tummy ache, and was sicker than a dog. No one knew what was wrong with me. I laid on the living room couch wriggling in pain. On this given night (although my parents were very concerned about me) were cooking L & O for dinner which just made me even sicker by the smell. I pleaded that they stop cooking it and throw it out. They said they did (since I was in the living room and couldn't tell, I think they actually scarfed it down not to be wasteful).

I got worse which prompted them to take me to Emergency. I was admitted and diagnosed with mesenteric adenitis where I was treated with daily antibiotic shots in the leg, and then given to me by a nurse, a different little plastic toy animal everyday for two weeks, then released on Easter morning carting home with me my bunny and duck stuffed animals received while in the hospital so close to the holiday.

To this day I can't even think of L & O without thinking about how sick I was, and how much more sicker I felt smelling it under those conditions.

L & O? ... No Way No How!!!

It does however bring to mind the bunny and duck stuffed animals, and little plastic animal toys, so that's cool. :bunny:

Nope! I grew up the old fashion way that if it was on your plate you had to eat it. I would eat a pound of mashed potatoes just so I could bury the taste of the liver I them

When I was a kid, my parents gave it to me and told me it was a different kind of steak. I loved it. One day I found out it was L & O and I have never ate it since.

I know when I worked at Morrison's we couldn't keep up with the demand. I'd guess the average age of those indulging was 60+, they would get hungry while traveling to bingo competitions on charter buses. I thought it must be good, so I tried it, and hated it.

Huge fan.

The liver is an organ that processes impurtities out of our body , why anyone would want to fry it and eat is far beyond me . And I'm a pretty dang adventurous eater.
