Anyone On Here Ever Met An Actual, Active Ku Klux Klan Member Before?

Featured Replies

I'll add a story about how brazen they were in the mid '70s. Because of busing there were riots and because of the riots HS Football games were all played in the afternoons for the first half of the season. When we were finally allowed to play on Friday nights again my school (Southern) played at the old Stuart High School which was located in the Valley Station area. There were several hillsides within visible distance of the field and at one point during the game a cross could be seen burning. Weather it was actually the Klan or just some idiotic wannabes I don't know but it was very unsettling.

If you ever get a chance watch the History Chanel documentary about the history of the Klan.

Around that same time frame a guy who worked at the KY headquarters of BlueCross BlueShield with my dad was going around asking people what they thought of the Klan. If someone responded negatively he would just go on about his way, if they responded positively then it would turn to recruiting them to join the Klan. As crass and onery as my dad is I would have loved to seen his response to the guy and the guy's reaction.

Around the time of busing, the Klan had a brief membership growth in Louisville. Busing was very unpopular. Parents hated the idea that their kid could not go to the local school and instead had to be bussed accross town. The Klan took hold of this topic and ran with it. The busing issue probably had the greatest impact on the movement of young families out of Louisville/Jefferson County and into surrounding counties (Bullitt, Oldham, Spencer, Southern IN, etc.).

I'm going to assume this was in jest.
Whatever .

I wonder how steady memebership in the Klan is? In other words, are most members long time, decades old members or is it in many cases, many people join for a year or two due to some issue flaming up their bigotry and then just move on? While I detest the Klan they are an interesting group in their make up and such.

Whatever .

Anything particular you have read on this board that gives you this view? I would not be surprised if there are not a few on here that are not particularily racially sensitive but would be surprised if any of the active members (ie post regularily, are known on the board) are as far as being card carrying members of a white power group such as the Klan.

Would he want to fight me if he saw me of would he just quit on the spot?

Naw. But I bet he would ask you for a drink of purple kool aid! Oh yeah!

I have one that lives on either side of me.....

Wait, seriously.....There are actually groups out there still out there doing this....? I guess I need to get out from under my rock. Wow!!! I'm with CWB, It would of taken a whole bunch of will power not to jack up that Clown....

When I lived in Indiana there was a guy that was a supposed high level KKK official that would shop at my store from time to time. He never said or did anything out of the way when he was in the store, dressed in a normal way, no way to tell he was Klan. Associates that knew who he was told me who he was. That county had almost 0% diversity, maybe why he drove to our store to shop as opposed to surrounding counties. We did employ three associates that he would not have approved of, but again he never caused any trouble at my store.

I used to work with one he was the grand wizard. I think he is in prison now. This guy was one of the people that put up the crosses down on fountain square back in the 90s.

Didn't you know if you are vocal about being against the way Obama has led the country you MUST be a Klan member? ;)

Not that I am aware of but I am pretty sure that would be lucky for them. KKK and other groups like that are morons.

Do you arise from bed every morning and immediately complain that life ain't fair?

I'm going to assume this was in jest.

Must be nice to live that sheltered life in NoKy. Some deeper investigation of this state would be very eye-opening for you. It's pretty redneck -- still quite a few sundown towns out there.

Klan members are cowards. IMHO.

A mining engineer that worked with my dad in the 80's displayed a diploma/degree looking piece of paper in his office. It was a charter for the KKK.

I also did a research paper on the KKK in college because I had a professor that worked with the Southern Poverty law Center and I live in an area of the state that is a little backwoods.

Those of you that live in western Kentucky have probably met a few and didn't know it, as there was/is an active chapter in Dawson Springs.

Little known fact - there are 2 Nathan Bedford Forrest High Schools in the U.S.

No, I'm not a Democrat. :D

Besides, why would I want to mirror you?
