Anyone On Here Ever Met An Actual, Active Ku Klux Klan Member Before?

Featured Replies

...because as of today, I have.

And he's working on my jobsite in Jeffersonville, IN (for now).

After having an all-in-all brief "discussion" with him this afternoon, I was boiling. I had to leave the jobsite for a bit to cool off. The two emotions that struck me primarily were rage and sadness. I'm glad I managed to make it 32 years without ever coming into personal contact with such an extreme bigot, but man oh man, I could have gladly gone MUCH longer without it.

Yes, multiple, older ones and younger ones. Very different mind set between them.

Not that I'm aware of, luckily.

Yes. In 1975 when bussing started in Jefferson County they became very active and openly recruited new members. They actually passed out flyers in their robes and pointed hats (masks in public are illegal) on Dixie Highway near the site of one of the riots. They also went door to door in my subdivision recruiting.

Wow

No but I think there are a few here on BGP.

I haven't knowingly met a Klan member in my life.

This.

I'm going to assume this was in jest.

An actual member? I don't think so. Have I met some people that would have the fee waived for the 1st year if they joined? Absolutely.

I'll add a story about how brazen they were in the mid '70s. Because of busing there were riots and because of the riots HS Football games were all played in the afternoons for the first half of the season. When we were finally allowed to play on Friday nights again my school (Southern) played at the old Stuart High School which was located in the Valley Station area. There were several hillsides within visible distance of the field and at one point during the game a cross could be seen burning. Weather it was actually the Klan or just some idiotic wannabes I don't know but it was very unsettling.

If you ever get a chance watch the History Chanel documentary about the history of the Klan.

I have actually met about 5 members of the KKK. They were older men who I couldn't stand to be around. First met them when they came by my house wanting my Dad to work on their cars. He said no after hearing them run their mouths. He actually told me to go into the house and get his gun. I was in high school driving by the local park and saw a rally going on. They were in robes and everything. I grew up in Alabama and just for the info, not everyone in Alabama is a bigot like some think.

So, CWB...how did you find out he was a KKK member? He have tattoos or a tee shirt on or something? What gave it away, how did the conversation go and could he tell you were aggravated? Would he want to fight me if he saw me of would he just quit on the spot?
