Anyone On Here Ever Met An Actual, Active Ku Klux Klan Member Before?

Featured Replies

I would love to meet someone some day who is 100% void of any racist inclinations whatsoever. Doubt if it will happen. We all have SOME racial bias, some a lot more than others. But we're all guilty.

I bet Hellen Keller was pretty chill.

My goodness SF, this is twice now in one day I've agreed with you!

Good gracious. What was the other one? I want to remember this moment in time. :)

I met another Klansman today. Another Jeffersonville, Indiana native. I'm sitting here with a knot in my stomach and a scowl on my face just thinking about it as I type this.
Does the Klan have a decent sized membership there?

No clue...but having only met one member in my life prior to moving here, and then now having met two from the same city in the last two years, I'm thinking they may.

I'm going to assume this was in jest.
Actually thinking about it now I have in all to say honesty that no I was serious about that statement .

No one that has come out and told me so. But I know several who wouldn't surprise me if they were card-carriers. Seriously.

Must be nice to live that sheltered life in NoKy. Some deeper investigation of this state would be very eye-opening for you. It's pretty redneck -- still quite a few sundown towns out there.
I guess that I am very cynical but there used to be a sundown town in Campbell County ,but that changed when the town folks figured out that black players could help them win some State football championships .

The teeth they're missing I likely removed if it makes you feel any better.

You would be very surprised. I'm not , once I came to the understanding that we are all racist to a degree. However, some folks that you would never, ever think had those kind of inclinations deep down in their being, in fact, do. One of many examples-- I went to a house once to look at a car that was for sale. I found out that the man and woman were very well respected in the community, well-known, well-liked, pretty much pillars of the community. They were super nice and accommodating to me, offered me some soda and we talked for nearly two hours. Super , super people. And then... during a conversation about how we liked UK basketball... here came the racial slurs about how those ******* probably couldn't read or write their name correctly but will make their millions playing basketball. These were business owners and churchgoers that are very well thought of in my community. It was a real epiphany that day. People you would never suspect having racists thoughts and feelings certainly do. None of us are totally exempt. I've seen similar stories play out again and again since that day. There is something within us all that makes us fearful, suspicious, and bigoted towards peoples that are different in some way to us. We may have never met a member of the Klan, but we've all met racists. Even though we don't like to acknowledge it, we all have issues with those who are different from us. Fortunately, I think those who are blatant, soul-breathing, hate-filled, unapologetic racists are in the minority. The demon resides just below the surface in most everyday normal folk like you and I, however.
