Anyone On Here Ever Met An Actual, Active Ku Klux Klan Member Before?

Featured Replies

Actually I have met one , A man named Parkie Scott was handing out recruiting pamphlets at an Ohio shopping center . Scott if you remember owns ,owned a farm adjacent to I-75 ,71 . The barn has a Confederate flag painted on the roof and he held regular cross burnings on his property next to the Interstate I tore the paper up and threw it in a garbage can . He was a :poop:

What is the significance of the cross burning? I don't understand the symbolism. Is the KKK anti-Christian?

It's their warped way of displaying their Christianity. The Klan has always aligned itself with Christianity, justifying its views through a racist-lenses interpretation of the Bible.

No' date=' I'm really not because, sadly, I hear a lot of racist garbage all too frequently. Are people less out front about it at the work place? Sure, if they want to keep their job. But I have to tell you, I hear a lot out there in public from both sides.[/quote']

What do "both sides" have to do with anything? The fact that some black folks are also racist is some kind of justification for someone being a redneck scumbag? I just don't get it.

"Racist-lensed" was what I meant.

Just curious, what do you call black racist or hispanic racist or asian racist. FWIW the most racist white people I have ever met weren't rednecks, but elitist of middle to upper class stature.

I had a meeting on my jobsite with a black man who owns a company doing work for me onsite. We had a rather unremarkable meeting, but after he left the job trailer, I had a foreman from another subcontractor (already working onsite) come up to me and express his feelings about working on a jobsite with a company owned by a black man. After he tossed out the n-word a couple of times in a matter of seconds, I told him I was not going to allow language like that on my jobsite. He then proceeded to continue on with an EXTRAORDINARILY offensive rant that included mentions of "good 'ol fashion lynchings", and how the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville was an American abomination. At that point I had gotten VERY angry and started yelling back at him, and somewhere in the exchange, he rolled up on of his shirt sleeves to show me the Aryan Nation seal tattooed on his arm. At that point he explained that he was a "proud, God-fearing member of the clan".

I started to 'tell' him what I thought of him, and at that point I realized I had my fist clenched at my side, and decided I needed to diffuse the situation before I did something to get myself in trouble. I opted to take lunch early in order to cool off.

I have since had a discussion with the owner of the man's company, and I've been guaranteed that he will not be coming back out to my job any longer.

While I doubt labor laws would allow an employer to be fired for having racist views, he may be able to be fired due to his comments. We can only hope.

Weird. My experience it goes across the board on economic levels. If I had to pick a side that it leans a little more, my guess is it would be on the lower economic scale.

That fact that RTS said "sadly, I hear a lot of racist garbage all too frequently" would make it seem he is lamenting that all races spew racial crap not justifying one race or the other using it.

Agreed. My understanding from the man's boss was that he was looking into things with his attorney as to whether or not he was justified in firing the foreman for his comments. I documented everything spoken between the two of us in my daily report, and I told his boss that I would gladly supply a copy of my jobsite documentation if it would assist in getting the foreman off of his payroll.

Hey CWB, just as an aside...what jobsite are you on in Louisville? We have a few partnerships with some GC's in the Louisville area, just wonder if you might be on one of the sites.

I guess. But every time I talk about white people being racist, there's always a chorus of "but they do it too" as though that somehow makes it OK.

Like most of the rest of you, I'm around white people far more than I am black people — not that that means I'm never around black folks, mind you. But since I'm around white folks more, I'm more concerned about correcting the bad stuff that comes from them. I'll leave it up to black folks to police themselves.

I think it's pretty fair to say that black racism is a natural reaction/defense mechanism to hundreds of years of shabby treatment by white folks. As Chris Rock would say, I'm not saying it's right, but I understand.

Must be nice to live that sheltered life in NoKy. Some deeper investigation of this state would be very eye-opening for you. It's pretty redneck -- still quite a few sundown towns out there.

What the hell are you talking about?

I never said there weren't some racially insensitive posters (hell, there are probably even a couple racist posters) on here. It's very very unlikely that there is an active member of the KKK amongst the BGP membership. As someone else pointed out, the worlwide population of KKK members is very very minimal.

Also, stop with the "sheltered life" crap. You don't know anything about me.

Just curious, what do you call black racist or hispanic racist or asian racist. FWIW the most racist white people I have ever met weren't rednecks, but elitist of middle to upper class stature.

I see more classism than racism among the posts on BGP. Then again, I've only been here since February. For examples of what I'm talking about, type "sterilization" into the BGP search line.

During my childhood there was a shady corner bar just across the street from my church and school that was rumored to be a meeting place for the Klan. I never saw or knew anyone for sure to be involved, but many of my neighbors were hardcore racists that spoke very freely in ways that disturbed me and made me afraid to counter their comments. They spoke as if any white person in ear shot would and should feel the same way. I did not, but it was an eye opener of how shallow, hurtful, and backward some people could be. They showed no shame. It would not be at all surprising if some of these neighbors were members. Apparently there is still a shotgun bullet hole in the ceiling of the bar from when someone let a bullet fly for whatever reason.

Ironically, the bar has been a friendly gay bar for more than 25 years, and a pioneering one at that, that wasn't a typically secluded backdoor type from the past. The fact that gay bars from the past were backdoor types didn't always mean they were shady, it was just a safety measure to avoid being bashed by unfriendly types that showed a lack of understanding.
