I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Let me have the ten years from 1964-1973 and you all can fight over the rest.

How about laying some specifics on us, Papa?

There's an awwwwwwwwful lot of variance in that time period. Some top sellers from that spread:

Buck Owens - My Heart Skips A Beat

Muddy Waters - The Same Thing

Charles Mingus - So Long Eric (Don't Stay Over There Too Long)

Gary Lewis & The Playboys - Count Me In

The Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

James Brown - I Got You (I Feel Good)

Tom Jones - What's New Pussycat

Golden Earring - Radar Love

Pink Floyd - Time

Holy smokes that's a tough question to answer. I've just gone through 90's Seattle Grunge, 00's Indie Rock, Memphis Soul, Delta Blues, Chicago Blues, Alt-Country/Americana in my mind...

I think if I had to put those in order of preference, I'd probably go with:

1) Alt-Country/Americana

2) Chicago Blues

3) 90's Seattle Grunge

4) Memphis Soul

5) 00's Indie Rock

6) Delta Blues

I think the way the Rolling Stones managed to infuse the blues, country, and the melodic rock n' roll of the time into a sound sums it up best for me. A lot of what I listen to today can be traced back to that.

I enjoy the blues. I like what I guess people call "alternative" country. I have a Pandora station I created that mixes everything from Willie Nelson to Ryan Adams to Steve Earle to the Drive-by Truckers. I like listening to 60s/70s soul music, but I can't rattle off a lot of history like others can. I never got much into jazz.

Sure, here are a few:

"Sympathy for the Devil", "Gimme Shelter" - Rolling Stones

"Reach Out, I'll Be There" - The Four Tops

"Layla" - Derek and the Dominoes

"Eight Miles High", The Byrds

"Stairway to Heaven" - Led Zeppelin

"Won't Get Fooled Again", "Pinball Wizard", "Baba O'Reilly", "Love Reign Oer Me" - The Who

"Sounds of Silence" - Simon & Garfunkel

"Teach Your Children", "Ohio" - CSN&Y

"Canadian Railroad Trilogy" - Gordon Lightfoot

"Ball of Confusion" - Temptations

"Across the Universe", "Ticket to Ride", etc. etc. - The Beatles

TDSOM album - Pink Floyd

So I guess you could say I gravitate toward "classic rock" if you want to pinpoint a particular sound; but classic rock is all over the place as well.
