What Rule Change Would You Make?

I would enforce the rule such that if both feet left the ground while you had the ball in your possession, whether you had established a pivot foot or not, you would need to get rid of it before you land again. That should eliminate an extra three to five feet of penetration without a dribble vs. the 70's rules and the catch the ball and then hop sideways to get your feet just right before you take the jump shot.

First if you had the ball in your possession when both feet left the ground the rule is already in place that you have to get rid of it before landing.

I would slap a T on a kid if he jacks up a shot well after the whistle blows. Drives me crazy when play is dead and a kid takes that half attempt at the rim. Delay of game?

I would add a 4 point line for Highlands.

Why?

It would allow teams to use their best players even if they get into early foul trouble. I also don't understand why they give teams an extra timeout if the game goes to overtime but they don't give the players an additional foul. If they didn't adopt the two shots and the ball rule for the fouls after a player reaches their limit I would at least like to see each player be given an additional foul for each overtime period.

As a coach I have 2 rules that need to be changed...

1.) 40 second shot clock. There is no strategy in holding the ball for 2-3 minutes. Its painful to watch and doesn't promote the game. Don't tell me about cost either, just have the booster clubs not pay for a holiday tournament or summer travel. khsaa is already mandating 3 officials for varsity play, what's a fourth to run the shot clock?

2.) With the emphasis khsaa puts on player safety it should be mandatory for each member school to employ a certified trainer to be at every practice and every game.

Rule question:

Why does a substitute have to wait until the first foul shot is taken before they can enter the game?

Mine would be to abolish the transfer rule..........It's unfairly, or at least inconsistently, applied and the only one hurt via the process is the kid. My feeling is any kid who transfers 1X per year only should be eligible day one.

In order to keep the game moving it was decided to have ALL subs come in at once. The best time for that was after the first FT.

Get rid of the coaches box. Allow the coaches to coach anywhere they want in the out of bounds area. coach wants to coach his team on defense in front of the other teams bench, have at it. Would make games more interesting.

No calling timeouts unless player has possession of the ball and both feet planted firnly on the floor.

That's means no TO's rolling around for a loose ball or falling out of bounds.

Either that, or reduce timeouts to 3 per game.

I would like for time outs to be called by the player only, after they have gained control, don't like coaches being able to do it when neither team has control.

3 timeouts per game per team with 2 more "timeouts" available merely to stop the clock, i.e., the players stay on the floor.

Don't permit a time out to be called as the player is going out of bounds.

On a loose ball....diving in on top of others should be a foul..or maybe it already is. But seems things get out of control a lot of times before a whistle is heard.

I agree with the flopping comment. A foul should be called on the flopper, someone is going to get hurt.

No running clock at the end of the game if there is a big lead. This messes up players stats and also takes away apportunities for playing time for those that may not typically get much varsity level playing time.

IMO: get rid of the block and charge. They are too hard to call which in turns means they called wrong a vast majority of the time.

Care to explain this this insightful post? Not seeing the humor.

...and put helmets and pads on the players.
