There has never been a rule stating you get "X" number of steps.

 

The rule has always been that once a pivot foot is established and it's lifted it cannot come back down prior to the ball being passed or shot.

 

So with that guideline how would you enforce your rule?

It was put in to open up the driving lanes more. It was never a safety issue.

To open driving lanes? It was for a demarcation for secondary defenders to limit how deep they could take a charge. I guess if you want to call it opening driving lanes that's fine by me. It makes the game safer at the HS level IMO>

I would enforce the rule such that if both feet left the ground while you had the ball in your possession, whether you had established a pivot foot or not, you would need to get rid of it before you land again. That should eliminate an extra three to five feet of penetration without a dribble vs. the 70's rules and the catch the ball and then hop sideways to get your feet just right before you take the jump shot.

Who pays for these to be installed at over 200 schools?

 

Let's not even get started on the ball of fun it would be for a scorekeeper to have to reset the shot clock. They can barely seem to work the game clock much of the time. I think you'd have to designate an official for that at every game.

 

It's not that I don't want a shot clock, but there are legitimate reasons why I don't think I'll see it any time soon.

How about eliminating the double bonus? Every shot after the 6th would be a single bonus. This forces teams to make free throws.

Eliminate refs. Call your own fouls. Disagreement on the call then shoot for it.

You're comparing putting a line on a floor with buying equipment and wiring? For real?

The hardest part of having a 40 second shot clock would be finding adults to run that clock!

 

Now it might not be so hard to find someone to do the varsity games but for the Frosh and JV games?

 

Heck a lot of schools can't find someone to announce the games over the PA system for the JV games much less the Frosh games and I know a school (and it's not a small school) who doesn't have a person to be the scorekeeper for their Frosh team!

Why? If a player has possession of the ball why shouldn't he/she be allowed to use a timeout?
