Are you saying that you think a circle would eliminate potential injuries to offensive players if that area inside the circle was eliminated as a spot for the defender to take a charge?

My argument is that I don't agree that it would make it that much more difficult for the official to determine, yet make it much more safe for the offensive player. then it would be coached out of the game to stand directly under the goal to take a charge when a player is on his way down.

Gotcha. I don't necessarily agree especially since one inch forward would be legal. I just don't see that little area making a big difference in injuries. You'd have to expand the area IMO if injuries were the driving force.

Clyde, they did in the levels above. That's my point. Athletes are approaching college size in the high school level both physically and skill-wise. I think the half circle is coming to HS sports soon. As to the position of the arc, what does one inch mean, it has to be drawn somewhere, outside it there's not any real threat that an offensive player is on his way down at that point. Unless it's Andrew Wiggins launching from the foul line.

I'd eliminate the disqualification on the player's 5th foul. Instead every time they committed a foul including and beyond their 5th foul the player that was fouled would get 2 shots and the ball just like on an intentional foul.

I think Vitale used to champion that, but only for a 6th foul. If I remember right, he wanted to give an opportunity for a coach to bring back in a disqualified player. But the opposing team would get two shots plus the ball. But if there was a sixth foul he would be gone.

Agreed. The reason is would be done at the NBA level is because fans paying lots of dollars want to see the stars play.

 

That doesn't seem like a good enough reason to implement it in college or high school.

Old School, why would you eliminate it? It's just the next evolution of the footwork. We started with a set shot. Then jump shots and layups.

 

I will say that it is getting much harder to call due to better handles and better moves by the players.
