  1. Politics....you said it all with that word. This is in response to an earlier post.
  2. Well Cornbread is still at it. I have seen him officiate some games in the 8th Region this year.
  3. Walton did NOT win the ALL A Region this year.. Gallatin Co did. The Class A is a great tournament. If othes want a tournament for other size schools then have at it and stop whinning about the Class A. More opportunity is better in my opinion.
  4. His defense on Justice was ever better than his defense today. Or a least that's what several of us thought. He had Justice totally frustrated. Not sure what Justice's shooting stats were for that game, but Seibert took care of business on defense.
  5. And without Seibert's defense on KCC's Justice, I am not sure NCC would have been in the Finals. #20...awesome defender and relentless. What year is he? I loved watching him play.
  6. Cornbread starting officiating in 1957. And is still officiating. Lot of changes in the game since then.
  7. I was an outsider watching the games this weekend. Congrats to NCC. They have a nice team. Not sure of the kids name, but I thought #20 on NCC deserved to be on the all tournament team. The defense he played on Justice of KCC and then the defense today on Bardstown's good shooter was awesome. I thought the defense #20 played made a big difference in the outcome of these games. Defensive efforts need to be recognized as well, and not just the points that are put on the board. #20s defensive efforts may have already been recognized in this thread and I am just not aware of his name. Sorry. NCC has a lot of very good players. Again, congrats. I expent them to make a lot of noise in the 9th region tournament.
  8. Sorry Papa Pigskin, sounds like you were offended by my questions. Maybe you are an official. Obviously you did not read my first post. I indicated there are some very good officials. I have commented to officials after games my team has won and also after games my team lost, if the officiating was reasonable, that they did a "good job". I think you read more in to my questions than was there. I was just trying to understand how one becomes qualified to officiate at the varsity level and how one continues to annually maintain that status. Some of your comments certainly have merit. I will not address them all. But to your #2 comment, YES, if the 3rd official is not skilled in officiating, then YES, it would be much better to use only 2 good quality officials. Someone else might want to address your comments, I really see no need to continue this. My questions have been answered.
  9. If there is someone on this thread, who was an outside observer, i.e. not a fan of either team, would you please comment on the qualityof the officiating of this game?
  10. On Point, I understand and agree, it is a difficult job. And the official is working in a very fast paced environment with split seconds to make a decision. Just wondering about the training. I have seen the evaluators at some games. Really more last season than this season though.
  11. Clyde, for some reason my response didn't seem to post. So the question is, then What is required to become a high school varisty level official? And what is required to maintain the "license" or "status" to continue being a high school varisty level official each year. Or maybe this is somewhere on the KHSAA web site. I have to admit I have not gone to the KHSAA web site to see if there are guidelines there.
  12. Is this summer training required of ALL officials who officiate at the varsity level? Or only those who are working toward officiating at the varsity level?
  13. I would honestly like to know what type of training programs there are currently in place to help improve game officials. I am not starting this as a thread to bash officials. I honestly would like to know the current program of improving officials' skills. I would suggest requiring them to watch film of the games they have officiated with others to evaluate the calls they made. Much like players watch game film to improve their skills. They should have to attend these sessions and have others "sign off" that they have completed this training session. And require "X" number of these each season. Guess this might also bring to mind, will they get paid for the time spent in this training?
  14. Don't permit a time out to be called as the player is going out of bounds. On a loose ball....diving in on top of others should be a foul..or maybe it already is. But seems things get out of control a lot of times before a whistle is heard. I agree with the flopping comment. A foul should be called on the flopper, someone is going to get hurt. No running clock at the end of the game if there is a big lead. This messes up players stats and also takes away apportunities for playing time for those that may not typically get much varsity level playing time.
  15. There are some very good game officials. And there are some that most obviously need to improve. I am curious to know what is being done by KHSAA to improve the skills of those officiating games? I have some suggestions, but would like to know first what is currently in place.
  16. What are Hicks and Strothman's injuries and how long will each of them be out? Anyone know?
  17. Thanks. I am not versed on how the "official" stats are recorded. But my main question was the block and rebound stat. Assum the ball has left player B's hand, player A blocks the shot and then player A grabs the ball out of the air. What are the stats that are recorded for player A? I think it is a blocked shot and a rebound. But not sure.
  18. For someone who keeps official stats for boys high school basketball, I have a question. When player A blocks a shot by player B and then player A also grabs the ball after blocking player Bs shot, what are the official stats for that situation? I am assuming for player A, it is 1 blocked shot and 1 rebound. And for player B a missed shot attempt. Is this correct? If not, what are the offical stats that should be recorded?
  19. I agree, seems most every time, if not all the time, the student is determined to be eligible to play at whatever school they transferred to. So it just seems to waste a lot of peoples time and money to work through the appeals process, including KHSAA's time. But then, if they did away with the transfer rules, that would be one less thing we would have to discuss on BGP!
  20. To recap: Derek Willis - Bullit East University of Kentucky Austin Hunt - Boyd County Lincoln Memorial Jack Whitman - Lex Cath William & Mary Rusty Troutman - Bullit East Bellarmine Antonio Campbell - Cov Holy Cross? Ohio University There must be more than this. Add the D3s and NAIAs as well. Any player going to the next level deserves recognition.
  21. Would someone post a full list, to the best of your knowledge, and at this point in time, of KY high school seniors who have made verbal commits and to which college? Please list their name, current high school and their future college. Thanks
  22. It has to do with their age and there have not been any rules violations with aau and no violations with ncaa. The coaches and parents have cleared it with the appropriate governing authorities.
  23. Wow! Sounds like a lot of turmoil in Montgomery County.
  24. I agree with all the complaints regarding the Sweet 16. Lots Lots more could be done to make this an attractive and interesting event to attend. Need new new ideas and updated ideas and more more give aways during the games. And better entertainment inbetween the games. There are some very very talented students in our state that I think could be showcased between the games. I don't have the ideas of exactly what or how to do this, but I think there is a LOT that could be done to improve the atmosphere at the Sweet 16. I have attended the tournament for years and yes...it seems to be less and less interesting each year. I agree even the fan cam and the video highlights were boring boring and music was boring boring this year. I think new promoters must be brought in to revive this tournament and bring new life to it.
