I have heard many, a sample of some -

 

1 - Programs, small, doesn't include all the records like previous and cost $5.

 

2 - Time/date - some have mentioned there is no need for The Sweet 16 to be played at the same time as the 1st Rd. of the NCAA. It hurts attendance BAD.

 

3 - Highlight video before title game. I see some peoples point. Video is meant to pump you up....this year just added to the boring/mopy feel of the tournament.

 

Anyone agree/disagree or have any others?

I was stunned at how boring the pre-game music was.

The Championship game simply can not be played at the same time as a UK game and expect it to compete. Although I watched both it was just a "no contest". No way would I travel to Rupp and miss the NCAA games regardless if UK played or not. Scheduling must be better.

 

KHSAA needs a marketing revamp for this event. Music, programs, advertising blitz, timing. Even the ticker tape at the end is just so yesterday. I do love the High School game but it ends for me after Regions.

Title IX issues come into play as they can't always have girls state tournament vs first week of NCAA's.

I do not think it would bother for girls attendance one bit.

 

They have to do something.

Agree with all, why did they go cheap on the programs?

The KHSAA has spent way too much on that state of the art building and hall of fame that they occupy. Had to cut costs somewhere.

In defense of the KHSAA in planning the dates of the tournament, I don't think they could POSSIBLY have had any idea Kentucky would be playing during the championship game. As well, they could not have possibly known Kentucky would be playing in Louisville when planning the event.

Also, if the girls continue to play at Diddle, and the boys (obviously) at Rupp...you pretty much have to wait until the end of the regular season for both WKU and UK to be done with their home courts don't you? So, that leaves the one week of the conference championships. And if the girls have their state "first", then the boys' will fall the first week of the NCAA, as it did this year.

Agree 100%. I remember when the tourney was at Fredom Hall and Christian L hit the winning shot....I stayed in the room to watch UK and my husband and son went to watch the sweet 16 games. This is not a new thing....been happening for years. Something that just can't be forseen as to when UK will play on TV.

As I said in a previous thread the Sweet Sixteen is outstanding DESPITE the KHSAA. Scheduling you just have to take your chances. Unless you want to play all boys and girls games on Mon, Tues & Wed then you are going to have the NCAA issue. That's just the way it is.

As for the programs, they are cutting back on those in all sports and it is TERRIBLE.

The video and the introduction of everybody who has anything to do with both teams - right down to the assistant uniform laundry attendant - really put a damper on the start of the game. To make those boys stand there for 10 minutes after warming up, then give them 2 minutes to warm up again... that is just plain stupid.

As I posted in another thread it is beyond unacceptable that the official scorer credited a point to Scott Co. on a missed FT. At the time it was an 11 point game at the end of the third quarter - thank goodness it ended up not mattering.

Why in the world do they schedule games 1 1/2 hrs. apart?! In all of the sessions with 2 games (which is every one but the finals) they have some type of award or presentation after the first game and then 25 minutes to warm up. That means the second game NEVER starts until at least a half hour after the first one is completed. Has anyone ever seen a HS game get completed in an hour?!... especially when you have 4 media time-outs and a 15 minute halftime! schedule the games 2 hours apart (and then they would run 10-15 minutes late instead of 40-45 minutes late).

Rupp has Round 1 and 2 of the NCAA next year so Sweet 16 will be a week earlier during conference tournaments. Since the SEC is in Nashville, this won't help attendance either.

Maybe they can add 2 more classes to football to make up the loss? :lol:
