  1. Well it sounds like you have good access to the stats...i don't and have not seen as many games as maybe you have, but if you have the stats, then the true story about selfish ball is revealed by looking at the assist stat. Who lead in assists last year for Owen?.. And how many assists did not get counted because a player missed a shot that should have been made and therefore it would have/should have been counted as an assist.... I agree Owen has a strong freshmen class this year....it will be interesting to see how the coach puts them in the team mix...some may be stronger that some of the Juniors/Seniors.
  2. I watched Owen play 5 or 6 times last season. Are we talking about the same player #5. I was extremly impressed with her floor game.
  3. I think the lady Rebels will be one of the top teams in the region. They Have IMO the top player in the 8th region in Gayhart, and a top 10 player in Kemper. They also have a lot of talent in the freshman class. The key will be. Will their coach have the nerve to play the younger more talented players. (IMO)
  4. I am not worried or concerned about Mr. Obama's first address to our children. It will contain a very positive message. and receive excellent press. I am terrified of the one's to follow.
  5. I purchased a GS pup several months ago at a kennel outside of Morehead. The name was Stepping Stone Kennels. The cost was in your price range. I am very happy with the dog.
  6. I am just quoting what I have heard some college coaches say regarding what they look at during recruiting and I think they were mainly talking about the 4 and 5 positions .........sure they have to have offensive skills, and convert when the opportunity is there, but the D1 level wants big bodies to be able to take the pounding, rebound and guard the paint. There are some 6'7" and 6'8" players in KY that do this very well, some averaging double doubles or close to double doubles and play defense very well, they are shutting down some of the other "more recognized" players in the state, but seems they are not getting the recognition they deserve............but I do hear several are getting the letters from D1 schools.....they just don't like all the hype and then a potential let down if it doesn't work out..........We all know playing at the D1 level happens to very few players.....looks of players receive letters and invitations to the schools elite camps, but the school may invite 30-40 kids to their elite camp with only 2 or 3 scholarship spots to fill.
  7. Well, seems everyone is pumped about the State AAU tourney, but truth be known, even if it was another weekend, the top AAU players would be in other tournaments, that may be more important than the State AAU and playing teams that are more competitive than what they play at the State AAU level. Not to downplay the State AAU tourney, but that's reality. No matter when you have it, there will be conflicts. If the have it during the week, won't the students be in school?
  8. I find that hard to believe since he is a Junior, tore his ACL last year, out most of the season and still has approximately 2 weeks before the docs will release him to play. Don't understand why a school would make an offer when they don't know how he will come back from the injury. Didn't know D1s could make offers (other than verbals) to a Junior. Seems to be a nice kid, saw him play some last summer. wasn't a starter on his AAU team last year.
  9. Good and/or excellent high school player does not always equate to a good D1 player, even for a low D1 school. And why do most of you seem to only look at points scored in evaluating a player with D1 potential. I question if some of these players play defense at the intensity and with the defensive skills and knowledge that are required at the D1 level.....If you score 20 points but give up 20 pts on the defensive end, what have you accomplished? College coaches do look at points scored, but I also have been told that is one of the LAST stats they look at. They want a player with the all round game and the body to go with the position. It takes a very high skill set to make it at the D1 level. I heard that out of the class of 2008, only 10 KY boys ended up at D1 schools and some of those have now transferred to other non-D1 schools............. It will be interesting to see what happens with the classes of 2009 and 2010.
  10. It is by invitation. The invitations were sent to the players high school coach.
  11. I saw him take the 3. did not know he led the team in %. Will all three bigs be on the floor at the same time next year
  12. I watched Owen 6 or 7 times last year. there were times when the guards forgot Shelton and Colligan were on the floor.
  13. Shelton has averaged a double double the past 2 seasons.
  14. Colligan ranked in the top 5 state wide in field goal % this past season according to KHSAA stats.
  15. It should be on a different day. The kids that have played 2 or 3 games that day won't have any legs left to produce a good tryout.
  16. Williams-is that the same kid that plays on the Shining Star (Pittman) 15 yr old team?
  17. McGovney no doubt will be a good freshman player, but sounds like a lot of expectations to put on a freshman. Has he developed an outside jump shot, because a freshman typically won't be able to take it to the hoop on Juniors and Seniors?
  18. There may be another factor that comes in to play for the 17U State AAU title. The try outs for the 17 yr olds for the JUNIOR KY ALL STAR TEAM is on Sunday May 17 1 p.m. - 5 or 6. This JR KY ALL STAR team will play in JUNE against the Senior Class KY ALL Star team, before the Senior KY All STARS play the Indiana ALL Stars. So, if games are on Sunday afternoon, some of the 17U teams may be short some players.
  19. Shining Stars (Jackson) 17 yr old team played in a Tourney at Mid America Complex in Louisville and won the tournament. Played in the finals against the Louisville Lakers. There were 12 teams in the 17 age group I believe.
  20. Who do you see as the strong players and teams in the 8th region for the 2009-2010 season?
  21. They are all Ky kids. The team is based out of Louisville. Donovan Gibbs. Vance Hall from Franklin County. Taylor Epley from Trinity. Jordan Shelton from Owen co. Casey Jackson grom So. Oldham. Alex Foley from No. Oldham.
