I believe Highlands needs to upgrade their schedule. Their program at its current level needs a challenge. Playing Elder is great but they need 3 or 4 of those type teams on their schedule. If winning state 4A every year is the goal then so be it but if a higher goal is to be nationally recognized then step up and play a tougher schedule. I believe they will have to in the next two years because after Campbell gets their two year beat down then noone from NKY will be willing Also, they should play Trinity in the regular season. I know the Rocks would rather play in season. JMO

Are you sure they are unrelated? You are saying that a perception of PED use, if in fact there is one, would have nothing to do with HHS scheduling challenges?

I'm going with a Boone guy. He says Highlands needs to schedule better, I think NKY and KY needs to get better. Highlands has to go to Ohio and Louisville to find competition in KY. The NKY 6a schools don't like the fact their a cut below Ft. Thomas that's why Ryle tried to prove a point.

I think enough has been outlined, detailed and discussed about how Highlands does it better then the rest.

I have read some posts on here that are borderline "top secret" that we really should not be sharing on the web.

I would rather state general but important things like our Jr League Football program and proper diet, conditioning and a great education as the reason why the Birds have the success they have had as most on here have stated and lets leave it at that.

Actually, I don't see Campbell dropping them as long as their coach is there. They have a coach that understands to be competitive in 6a, they have to play good competition. I see Campbell county winning NKY 6a more times than not and making a run at state at some point.

Besides, to attack a High School program and teenage boys on a public sports forum and go as far as accusing them of Recruiting and using Performance Enhancing Drugs is gutless, classless and laughable imo.

 

I know most if not all of the Highlands fans on here are playing this guy like a fiddle and having a whole bunch of fun at his expense but lets not stoop to his level.

While jb has answered your question quite well, I'll add that Highlands usually doesn't have to beat a team as good as Highlands each year to win state and it keeps winning state. So it's scheduling philosophy is obviously working. Can the same be said for the 6A N. Ky teams? The 6A N. Ky teams do have to beat teams as good, if not better, than Highlands each year to win state. So it just makes sense for the 6A N. Ky teams to play Highlands to prepare for beating X and T in particular in the playoffs. There aren't many teams that have the overall team speed that T in particular does. Highlands year in and year out, comes the closest. Why not play them to teach your players; to help them prepare? The only reasons I can think of why a 6A N. Ky coach would not want to play Highlands is that coach either doesn't like Dale (which is putting emotions ahead of doing what is best for your team); or the coach is worried about the affect a big loss to Highlands would have on the psyche of his players (which I find odd, for if his players aren't emotionally tough enough to rebound from a big loss, they aren't going to be emotionally tough enough to beat X or T later in the playoffs).

 

I have to think that playing Highlands helped prepare Scott County for their playoff game against Trinity. The big loss to Highlands didn't adversely impact the Scott County players in subsequent games. Not a doubt in my mind that Quick being out the entire game and Dawkins being out the first 3 quarters helped Scott County a lot. But T still had a lot of exceptional players on the field, even without those two. Yet SC was leading for the first 3 quarters. Obviously I can't prove that playing Highlands helped Scott County improve so much from where they were early in the season when they faced Highlands; I can't prove that playing Highlands helped prepare Scott County to play Trinity. But my knowledge of the game sure leads me to think it did.

To answer your question, yes. If we needed to beat a team in the playoffs running the option as well as Colerain does, with the talented players Colerain has, I'd be all over Dale to play Colerain every year to help prepare Highlands. But we don't, so I'm not. To properly defend against Colerain's O, Highlands would have to make some rather dramatic changes to it's defensive schemes and reads. I played LB against the Colerain style of option in high school and college. You have to do things quite differently on D. We actually changed personnel defensively when we played Colerain style option teams. But back in the day, the option was a much more common O than it is now; certainly in Ky where the spread, Franklin style passing O, seems to be the most common.

 

Does a Defensive Coordinator want to make those changes for one game; for an O that he won't face the rest of the year? I wouldn't if I didn't have to.

 

 

That may seem like "ducking" to you. To me it seems like putting together a schedule that helps prepare you win state championships.

 

For the record, if T and X ran the Colerain style option, I'd have substituted Colerain for Highlands in my initial post.
