Highlands schedule in 2013

Featured Replies

I am not apologizing for anything. I asked how HHS can put more team speed on the field than Scott County , and you collectively, have not answered the question. Given the inability of HHS to schedule, I believe you are not comprehending on exactly whom the burden of proof of lies.

Better question, why isn't Scott County putting more team speed on the field? To me, it sounds like they have more advantages than many other schools larger or smaller.

Highlands out-trained, out-schemed, and executed better than Scott County on that night, and the score showed that. Scott County wasn't as good. Scott County needs to be more like Highlands. According to some, they "should" be better than Highlands.

Get the best athletes to play football, run a system that works well with the athletes that do play, train them as good as possible for their position, execute, and do it better than the opponent. It's not Highlands fault Scott County lost and were slower, it is Scott County's fault. Be better.

I'm not alleging or accusing. I'w waiting for a credible answer to my question.

Something along the lines of "We speed train with plyometric bands to improve speed and explosive movements."

Ok, we will go with that. Is that better? Not true but good for me.

Actually, my son runs behind my truck everyday as we head from the Hills to the Fort. 13.8 miles a day one way. And if he's not sweating when he comes out after practice, he has to push the truck back home. Actually that is true sometimes. 325k on Black Beauty.

I sorta tossed it out there in an earlier post. At Highlands Dale plays Student/Athletes. That means not the best athletes play all of the time.

Maybe this is what SC is missing.

One has to be smart to put all those tools to work and when you work one has to work smart. Now thats my Highlands education hard at work...:thumb:

Just spit my fruit loops across the table.

This thread has gone off on one of those tangents that is totally unrelated to the topic. The real question, at this point is, who is going to take Boyle County's place on the schedule. It is too bad that Boyle County has dropped out.

Are you sure they are unrelated? You are saying that a perception of PED use, if in fact there is one, would have nothing to do with HHS scheduling challenges?

Why are the Navy Seals faster than the Army? All in the training. Highlands players buy into the dieting and training that it takes to be a step ahead or even with a speed team like Trotwood or Trinity.

Cracks me up how a Boone guy can cause so much debate. Boone prides themselves on muscle and squating with 2 or 3 fast kids.

There is no perception of PED use, not even close except in your mind. How would you like it if someone thought your son used them in order to take a second off his time?

I answered your question about the reason, it's training methods and emphasis but you choose to ignore it or doubt it. If you want to learn particulars Highlands practices are open. They'll start this week and you don't even have to get out of your car, you'll see them running around town carrying their weights.

We have told you what it takes. It's not just the training. It's the philosophy. Other schools up here take their big slow kids and put them on the line because "you are big and must play there". A lot of teams do that. That means your "team speed" (collective speed on the team) is not going to be good. HHS takes back up running backs and DB's and makes them linemen and linebackers. Kids that might not be on the field because they are sitting behind a first team running back or DB or linebacker. Therefore, their "team speed" gets escalated. On defense, they rarely tackle one on one because there are always multiple kids around the ball, so they can take a hit on the "size" because they swarm to the ball. Elder exposed HHS this year as to the formlua that can beat them. They had a huge quick line, a huge bruising fullback and a huge fast tailback. They pounded and pounded the ball. HHS was in control of that game until a late turnover, but the kid had like 258 yards against us and eventually took it's toll. The problem is most teams don't have the combination that Elder has to beat the birds. When they do, it's a very tough game for them. But most can't do it because they are missing something.

I'm sure your team has fast kids sitting on the sidelines that aren't even getting a chance. Again, if you want to get more "team speed" then find a way to get those kids on the field. Just because your kid got his speed down to a 4.9 doesn't mean he wouldn't be up against a smaller kid that runs a 4.7 when he plays Highlands. It's thinking outside the box and not labeling kids to certain positions. You should actually come see a hhs game. Its comical sometimes to see their D line line up against others O lines. You would actually laugh at the size difference most of the time. Technique and speed is the way they play. It seems to work.

That answers the "team speed" question. So any conversation further than that would need an explanation on what you are really trying to get at.

RC, I think your post was meant for jolmstead, not JA.

It was. I was just tagging on to JA's statements.

Teams I would go watch Highlands play

Don Bosco(NEW JERSEY)

Ensworth (Nashville, Tenn)

Maryville,(Tenn)

Ensworth would thoroughly handle HHS

The guy states that his kid shaved a full second off of his 40 time and at least doubled his bench reps by working hard. It's pretty simple every kid at Highlands works this hard if they want to get on the field. It's no secret just get every kid at Simon Kenton to do that and they'll have plenty of team speed too. Highlands coaches are able to teach some pretty deep level technique which makes them appear to play faster. They don't have to waste time motivating kids to work hard in the weight room and practice reps because if they don't there is someone just as good as them that will and they will sit. The Highland's advantage is as simple as not having to spend time yelling at kids to push themselves because they do it themselves. How do you capture that is the question that most every other coach in KY has to figure out.

The quality of a program is a function of the percentage of players that are self-motivated to be the best they can be. If I have five kids that are committed to work to get better on and off the field, I will be beaten by a team that has 50+ that have the same level of committment. The formula is simple: Encourage kids at an early age with parental support to be committed to this end and you will have a winning program. This is a communality of winning programs (Elder, Trinity, Highlands, etc.). It's not PED or recruiting. Build it and they will come. Good luck!

So now Highlands has open week 0? Is that correct?

I can't wait to see where this goes. CF, are you offering HHS a game?
