  1. Any upcoming power lifting events scheduled for around Kentucky? North Laurel, Raceland, and Boyd County have all had great meets with great numbers of football players in the past. They are usually scheduled in February.
  2. The events I have attended have all had power cleans and bench. Some have dead lift and squat.
  3. Raceland was a great event last year. Raceland as a team was very strong last year across the board. A sophomore from Coal Grove, Ohio was amazing at that event. If he comes back this year, he will be a favorite to win it for sure. Squated low 600s, benched low 400s. Super strong young man.
  4. Any upcoming powerlifting events this spring? I heard Bourbon County might be having one this year.
  5. This is what Bravard brings to the table. Get used to these types of blocks from the fullback spot. Holmes High School - Drew Bravard highlights - Hudl
  6. This was the last high school videoed bench press max for Evan Richardson. 505lbs for 1.
  7. NewCath semifinal against Somerset in 1983. Game was played at Newport Stadium. With about 2 minutes left, NewCath had the ball 1st and 5 on the Somerset 5. Somerset was winning 7-6. Three straight runs and the ball was placed on the Somerset 6 inch line. NewCath went for the field goal and we missed it.
  8. IMO there is nothing more exciting than a competitive powerlifting event. The guys show up and start talking to each other and sizing each other up, but it is friendly. They actually get to talk to one another, unlike football. Just a bunch of guys that value strength getting together to challenge themselves. The best is when some guy steps up and puts up a big number that no one expected. NKY needs to resurrect powerlifting events again.
  9. Squat is Evan's weakest event. 585 lbs. He has trouble keeping his heels on the ground when he gets deep. He leg presses 24 45lb. plates on a standard leg press. He falls forward in the squat. A squat shoe may do the trick.
  10. Evan Richardson of Highlands made his last max of high school career today. Bench 510 lbs. deadlift 680 lbs. Going to University of Cincinnati for engineering. No longer a football player, but one of the strongest in the state.
  11. Evan Richardson from Highlands won the Boyd County event today with a combined weight of 1940: bench 465, deadlift 635, clean 295, squat 545. Weighed in at 236.
  12. Boyd County weight lifting event is this Saturday. Evan Richardson is looking to get 1950lbs in combined 4 events: bench, squat, deadlift, clean
  13. You need to go watch a Highlands practice. No one is "getting their brains beat in everyday at practice by the starters." My son will graduate this year after playing four years. Highlands does not generally hit, much less abuse non-starters. Starters almost always go against each other. I understand your use of hyperbole to make a point, but this is just inaccurate.
  14. No one is getting cut. This is like a game of telephone. I know there is not a lot to talk about this time of year, but there is nothing to see here.
  15. This is the first I have heard about this. I believe if a kid wants to play at Highlands, he will find a place. However, there are kids that come every day, yet give the absolute minimum. I know this is true at just about all programs. I know an old coach that coached at a non-Highlands team in NKY that says "You will always have the steak eaters and bus riders." If I were a coach at a large program. I would give some serious consideration to having a traveling team of about 65 or 70 and the rest could come to all the home games and JV games. This would provide some incentive to get better to make the traveling squad. It may not fix the issue, but it might. I would love to hear opinions from others on this.
  16. Both teams lose a lot to graduation..... as always. It is Highlands to lose......as always. I listened to the nonsense of covcath going to beat Highlands during my son's entire high school career. Highlands is currently 15-0 over the last 15 games. When covcath wins one, it will be a legitimate conversation.
  17. I saw the video in twitter. Very strong guy. Very impressive.
  18. Congratulations to Ray. That is awesome. I believe the unbelievable needs to be documented and appreciated. You don't just roll out of bed and bench press that kind of weight. People think it is all genetics. If a kid is lifting that kind of weight, he has committed himself to getting strong and spent hours upon hours in the weight room. If you know where it is posted, I would love to see it.
  19. Is anyone going to North Bulliet on March 19th for the "State" powerlifting meet? If so, please post the overall weights for the major lifts. I cannot attend because of the Boyd County meet on the same day.
  20. There were 12 weight classes. 125 and lower, 125-135, 135-145, 145-155, 155-165,165-175, 175-185, 185-195, 195-205, 205-215,215-245, over 245. These may be off a little. But these are generally correct.
  21. At Raceland today Evan Richardson of Highlands won the overall event with a combined weight of 1290lbs. Bench 460 Clean 315 Squat 515.
  22. 500 lbs. was just tamed on the bench press tonight. No video this time. Just a few wide-eyed witnesses.
