We need to find a way to have HHS play BG every year. That would be a great game for both programs! Any way this could possibly happen?? If not, HHS may have to go north of the Ohio River to find a 10th game. There are a lot of teams in Ohio that would like to play HHS.

 

I'd love that game. I wish there was a way to make it happen.

Why? HHS proves year in and year out that you can win a title without playing a competitive schedule?

There are very, very few teams from Ohio who are interested in playing Highlands. Three from the GCL south and Colerain. Withrow has been the only exception and that was due to their previous coach. The schools that one might think are a natural fit, Anderson, Turpin (both much larger schools) have zero interest in playing a KY school that can beat them.

Simply stated, OH schools schedule KY schools that they should beat.

Pls name the Ohio teams. If they are of any caliber and have success I highly doubt they will be playing Highlands this coming season unless they have someone drop them as well on the exact date. Its just not that easy to schedule these games as I know Highlands tends to schedule two yrs out.

Last night was the first I had heard of Boyle backing out and that is the rumor I was referring to in the C-J thread. It's unfortunate. I wish they had honored the contract. I have a ton of love for the Boyle AD and coaching staff and I feel they did what they felt was the best thing to do for the team.

 

 

Whew... I thought you had something really juicy or something. I think this is old news as this news was released in Ft Thomas about 2 wks ago. I cant blame Boyle for backing out and I probably understand why but its really not good business to back out of an agreed series. Sorta will add some extra motivation for Highlands next yr in the event they see BC in the playoffs...But then again Highlands wants to play LexCath again in a real bad way. Now Highlands will have the motivation to play either, just sayin...

 

Man I thought you were going to tell me that BG moved to 4A or they let Highlands back in 5A. Now that would have been some kind of breaking story.:thumb:

As far as Highlands strength of schedule last yr. do not forget they hosted 2011 6A runner up Scott Co. I think that was a good game for both. I'm pretty sure most Boyle & Cov.Cath. fans would disagree with Jolmstead on his opinion that Elder was the only competitive game the Birds played last season. Heck, Boyle was up 9 at half & CCH also held an early lead and played hard to the end.

 

Highlands works hard to put together a challenging schedule each yr. There is a team from Louisville that may replace Boyle on the schedule for 2013.

 

Bottom line if someone is anti-Highlands then their comments towards them will be negative and vice versa...Oh well...reality I guess.

First, I know HHS is in a tough position to get the 10th game now since Boyle backed out late. Even if another school wants to play you, the logistics of putting it togeher would be very difficult at this point. When I said "a lot" of Ohio schools would like to play HHS, I meant in comparison to Ky. Cincy St. X, Moeller, Elder, Lasalle and Colerain would play HHS EVERY YEAR if they could. Withrow has in the past as well - not sure if they would now. My guess is that the strong D-1 schools up north may as well as they are always looking for games (St. Ignatius, St. Eds) but am not sure.

 

I have always wondered about some of the other D-1 Cincy area schools. Does HHS ever try to play schools like Lakota West, Lakota East, Sycamore, Mason or Middletown? I don't know. I would think those schools would like to play HHS in years they feel they are good because if they beat HHS, it is a big win from a Harbin perspective. As an HHS fan, I would much rather see HHS play one of these schools than play a Ky. school 2-3+ hours away.

 

Again, I know it is much easier to talk about scheduling a game here on BGP than actually getting it done. Boyle has put HHS in a tough spot. Not sure why but it is not right.

Putting more team speed on the field than Scott County, a program with three times as many male students and little to no competition for athletes should be an eye opener. Especially when the HHS community itself labels its own training facilities as mediocre.

OK, I will bite. So what are you saying? Because they beat Scott County and have more team speed, are they on PED's or are we back to the recruiting charge? Just want to know what you are accusing HHS of before responding. I am sure others would like to know too.

I would not call the training facilities "mediocre" rather I would use the word "bad". There is a better weight facility at the local YMCA than at the school.

It was the first I had heard of it. Q asked me on twitter and all I could think was oh crap. That's pretty telling how Boyle has fallen if this was news 2 weeks ago and no one cared to start a thread about. Sucks to say it but realistically it may be a while before Highlands plays Boyle County again. Highlands will likely play Mercer County before they play Boyle County. Times are changing.....

Not too many teams have their starting guard also return punts. When my son played he was always one of the the 3 or so slowest players on the team, yet when he played intramural in college his teamates could not believe how quick he was and actually designed plays to take advantage of it and he ended up catching 6 touchdown passes that year. I still haven't heard the last of it.

Just about every program trains 10.5 - 11 months a year. December is the only month kids get off now. Even during the dead period, kids get together without coaches and train. Strength train. Speed Train. Agility Train. The argument that HHS out works opponents does not hold water any more. Maybe 20 years ago, not now though.

Didn't say they outworked them. I said training and coaching methods. It's all about speed and quickness in their training. You simply seldom see bulky players, even their big guys. Moving running backs to the line. Not worrying about teams being able to run up the middle on them but going ahead and playing the smaller but faster d linemen. It's a philosophy, maybe even an obsession, with the coaches.
