July 23, 201214 yr I understand all the penalties except vacating the wins. There was no competitive advantage. I am glad they got hit hard and they should be ashamed of what happened but still not sure about the wins taken away. Here's what it came down to. That was the NCAA's way of saying, "No way in hell do we want this guy at the top of the NCAA all-time wins list." Has little to do with the punishment, IMO. It is 100% about his all-time wins record.
July 23, 201214 yr Vacating the wins I think was in no small part about damaging Paterno's legacy. It also represents every win that the program had after the point in time where they decided the football program needed to be protected above the interests of Sandusky's present and future victims. His legacy is damaged whether they take away the wins or not.

July 23, 201214 yr I'm still waiting for you to explain how this wasn't unethical conduct. Just because it wasn't one of the 10 points listed under the bylaw doesn't mean it doesn't apply. It clearly says unethical conduct by a prospective or enrolled student-athlete or current or former institutional staff member, which includes any individual who performs work for the institution or the athletics department even if he or she does not receive compensation for such work, may include, but is not limited to, the following: Then it lists the 10 specific examples. But the description clearly leaves it open for other things as well. Again, please explain how it isn't unethical conduct? The unethical conduct has nothing to do with on the field competitiveness or getting players and that is what Bylaw 10.1 was written to address. I am not saying there wasn't unethical conduct. What I am saying is the NCAA has gone well beyond the scope of their own bylaws in this case and greatly expanded their own areas of oversight and penalty.

I am not saying there wasn't unethical conduct. I haven't read the Freeh report and don't know the details and extent of a coverup. So you admit it was unethical, but it doesn't fall under the unethical conduct bylaw? That doesn't make any sense. If the Bylaw didn't include the statement "but is not limited to" I would agree with you, but it does include that statement so the NCAA can step in.

July 23, 201214 yr What is he saying? Defended Paterno and said everyone has jumped to conclusions without hearing the facts. He said he talked to Paterno and he swore to him that he did not know anything about it. They didn't let Paterno defend himself. He also said he wants to go back to PSU to help restore the program but isn't going to give them a donation unless it could go to the Paterno library. Just sounds bitter.
