"Unprecedented" penalties against Penn State.

CBS News has learned that the NCAA will announce what a high-ranking association source called "unprecedented" penalties against both the Penn State University football team and the school.

 

"I've never seen anything like it," the source told correspondent Armen Keteyian.

 

NCAA President Mark Emmert will make the announcement Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the organization's headquarters in Indianapolis.

Uh oh...these players better be able to transfer with no penalty.

We should assume its more than that if its unprecedented.

I echo Blue Magic. Let the current players leave without penalty.

 

Drop the hammer on Penn State.

A 3 year bowl ban would mean anyone that is not a freshman will be able to transfer without penalty. If they are going this road, it has to be 4 years so everyone is free to go...

The current players should not have to pay for what happened. But, that is usually how it works.

Could possibly happen.

I've heard so many rumors on this. I heard no football next season, loss of football revenue, and loss of the most scholarships ever. Emmert was given permission to go outside the usual rules on punishment for this one.

The current players should not have to pay for what happened. But, that is usually how it works.

Somebody's going to pay that didn't do anything. Non-revenue sports are going to get hit HARD due to lost football revenue.

Get the lawyers ready. If there is any legal ground for Penn State to stand on, I don't think they will just take the NCAA penalties without a fight.

1. No NCAA rules were violated.

 

2. If no NCAA rules were violated, then there can be no lack of institutional control.

 

In addition, IMO there was institutional control. The President of the university knew about Sandusky right? So the proper people were notified and knew about the problem. They just made terrible decisions on how to handle the problem.

Definitely two great points.

We're all so concerned with punishing Penn State that we seem more than willing to ease off on NCAA (who everyone on this site almost universally condemns as at best incompetent and at worst corrupt) and let them throw out their own due process rules to hammer all the wrong people.

Make them stop wearing black shoes and change their school colors to yellow

I have no doubt that the NCAA will screw this up too. They always do.
