Just curious---Is the new KHSAA sport of bass fishing going to have classes? If not n then I guess the lake won't be level. Will schools be angling to get the best fisherpersons?

I do think there are too many classes in football but that appears to be what the schools/football coaches want. With basketball, one is not enough nor is it fair to individual small schools that may have a chance to win a title once every 100 years.

Most of the people I have spoken with believe this year's Sweet 16 was boring and are hoping for a great game tonight. If basketball is classified the tournaments would get even worse with a poorer quality of basketball on display for everyone to see. If people even bothered to go watch it. I'd go support the local schools and go watch the big schools and that is it. It'd be a waste of my time and money to go watch the one dominant team in 2A dominate its class. Classification of basketball wouldn't work.

The All A Classic is NOT a state championship, it is just another tournament.

I would venture to guess that just about every participating coach/player in the All A would disagree with you. The only thing that keeps it from being a state championship is that it is not recognized as such by the KHSAA. I had a friend that played basketball at NKU about 8 years ago, played high school ball in Ohio. He played in OHSAA state tournament at D1 level, the highest. He went to 2004 KHSAA Sweet 16 with me and thought it to be the best high school event he had ever witnessed. He said that the OHSAA can NOT touch what we have here in Kentucky.

Surely no one thinks that attendance would drop with 2 tournaments consisting of the "Elite Eight" for each class, do they? Same format, just two separate tournaments. "The event" would not change.

 

The close-mindedness is no shock with basketball people.

Won't matter, Trinity will find the best young bass fisherman from a 100 mile range and give him a scholly. Best team money can buy. On the thread at hand though, the Sweet Sixteen will NEVER EVER change. Take that to the bank! The only thing that needs to change is statewide District seeding. Footbal needs to go to 4 classes.IMO

Two years ago we had a team win the All-A and Sweet 16. Just so happens to be a large class system year. The last private state champ before tonight was 2002 I believe.

The bottom line is that if Trinity hadn't been in the final we would never breech this topic with basketball. And they'll start the season in 2012/13 as preseason faves too. But I suspect we will see someone else represent the 7th next yr. Ballard is my pick. Then we can all sleep better with our "greatest show in hoops" because a private all boys school has to buy a ticket to see it like everyone else.
