We need classified basketball...

Featured Replies

Here is my opinion on all this. The one thing nobody ever seems to sit back and look at is what is best for the High School Kids and coaches. Nobody. Fans only care about what they want. Guess what, High School Athletics is about the kids. What is best for them? I think it is giving the kids in basketball the same oppurtunities that the same kids in these schools have in football and other classified systems.

Would it be fair to have all colleges to play in one tournament just becasue it is the Best Show on Earth. No it wouldn't. Same difference. In kentucky high school basketball there are such gaps in talent level. Do you think it would be right for Division 2 college teams, NAIA teams to be in the same tournament as UK. No. Makes no sense.

And that's why I said the regional tournament is a championship of it's own.

I haven't heard the kids complaining one bit. Ever. Seems like its fans complaining about accommodating every single kid in the state just as much as those of us saying keep it the same.

You haven't heard any kids complaining? Many reasons for that I guess. Spend a couple seasons in areas where the hope of ever getting to play in a state tourney is very slim. Not because the kids aren't talented and dont work hard but because the level of talent and the playing field is not even. Really suprises me that people could be proud of a State Champion who's team comes from private schools where we all know things are different. I think there are some really good teams private, public but I think they should be competiting against similar schools. Schools that can attract players should compete against other schools that can attract players. Schools that have 2,200 students should compete against schools similar in size. Lots of good teams and players that dont have the same opportunity as their fellow classmates that play football, etc.

I do agree that the regional Championship is its own deal and that I guess for most schools the state tourney is Icing on the cake. Good point.

I hope that St. X and Trinity go on a run and win the next 5 basketball championships... would love to see the KHSAA response to this!

4 private schools have won state championships since 1918. 4 out of almost 100 years. Your words are ringing hollow.

Typical knee jerk reaction when one of the dreaded big boys wins.

Funny. We all though that was the whole point. Welcome to our perspective.

This talk of classification in boys basketball will never, ever happen.....not as long as J. Tackett is in charge or any other member of the KHSAA that now holds an office there.......the only way it could change is if a totally new group of members rule the KHSAA and that isn't likely to happen in the next 20 years...

Neither will win their region next year.

I didn't realize just how dominant we were.

Better check your math.

The current system is not right IMO. We disagree. No big deal. Not gonna change so it doesnt matter.

Where is my math wrong?

Is the current All A Classic title really that meaningless? Do the small schools not value that title as a true small school state title? If they do value it, then why do we need classification?

Exactly. Those schools that have won the All A classic take pride in those victories. For me this is even another reason to not have classification.
