I'm not surprised. I know more D-1 baseball players personally than I personally know D-1 football and basketball players combined. I told both my sons to keep playing baseball but they both love basketball more. Go figure.

Trinity is the 4th private school to win the state championship. Just thought I'd throw that out there for the Trinity/private school haters.

You're right. So why cheapen the moment for the kids? That's what's wrong with our society now. Always trying to make sure EVERY kid goes home happy the easiest way possible for the kids instead of having them have to actually struggle, work hard and face a little adversity to accomplish a goal.

And this post in missing the entire point cracks me up. Football has always had multiple state champions as far as I can remember. When I was born there were multiple champions in football. I even believe that Jefferson County had their own champion at one point. Baskeball has had one true champion since 1932. To throw that tradition away in order to allow kids who go to smaller schools receive their own championship cheapens the championship process and pedigree that high school basketball in the state of Kentucky has. Can you hear me now?

^ One true champion since 1918. The 1932 number I used earlier is when it became the current format (16 regions all in one class) permanently. Before that it varied in the number of regions and had a few years where each region sent two champions, one from each class.

Everyone can have their own opinion, but for me I say leave the Sweet Sixteen just as it is, the greatist show in basketball. The "Bigs" dont win every year and when a non big wins its just that much sweeter......Southwestern represented the 12th Region proudly. They lost three games in region twice to Pulaski Co and one time to Lincoln Co and only beat Lincoln 9 pts in region. Dont you think PC and LC are thinking we could have played with Trinty. Okay I'm a dreamer but thats the reason they play the game. ....DONT MESS WITH THE SWEET SIXTEEN

I like it just the way it is. The school in my county has 250 high school enrollment and is the only school in the county. We have never won the 14th region (been runner-up twice), but if a poll were taken of basketball fans in the county, 90% or more would say leave it at the one class format.

Here is my opinion on all this. The one thing nobody ever seems to sit back and look at is what is best for the High School Kids and coaches. Nobody. Fans only care about what they want. Guess what, High School Athletics is about the kids. What is best for them? I think it is giving the kids in basketball the same oppurtunities that the same kids in these schools have in football and other classified systems.

 

Would it be fair to have all colleges to play in one tournament just becasue it is the Best Show on Earth. No it wouldn't. Same difference. In kentucky high school basketball there are such gaps in talent level. Do you think it would be right for Division 2 college teams, NAIA teams to be in the same tournament as UK. No. Makes no sense.
