Before the 1997-98 season they put an end to the one-class system and it hasn't been the same. Last spring the four class events combined to draw 438,430 spectators, a little more than half as many as the final single-class tournament.

I dont see where classes fix the problem. Before redistricting, you got more quality teams. The 8th would have sent Bullitt east or Scott county. That would have opened up Madison central and prp. Dixie would have been a good representative of the 9th, if Pike stays. Those teams would have made this a more competitive tourney.

Won't matter, Trinity will find the best young bass fisherman from a 100 mile range and give him a scholly. Best team money can buy. On the thread at hand though, the Sweet Sixteen will NEVER EVER change. Take that to the bank! The only thing that needs to change is statewide District seeding. Footbal needs to go to 4 classes.IMO

I would say the players who have won state champuonships have liked it but its not like high school sports are supposed to be about the kids or anything.

Well, in my opinion, theres a real premium in winning your region. The trip to Rupp is its own championship of sorts. Not sure that comes out the way I intend or not. But I sure don't want any part of watering the Sweet 16 down.

Surprised no one else has replied to this post. I am way more in favor of realigning regions than I am of classifying basketball.

Surely no one thinks that attendance would drop with 2 tournaments consisting of the "Elite Eight" for each class, do they? Same format, just two separate tournaments. "The event" would not change.

 

The close-mindedness is no shock with basketball people.

 

 

Why wouldn't it? Does anyone not tied to 1A, 2A and 3A schools to watch the title games in football? What are their attendance numbers compared to 4A, 5A and 6A? What is the attendance to the All A tourney compared to the King of the Bluegrass tourney? I will be at the Sweet 16 every year. Classify basketball and I'll watch the top 2 classes and that is it. There would be no point to go watch the smaller schools if I didn't have a vested interest in it.

The bottom line is that if Trinity hadn't been in the final we would never breech this topic with basketball. And they'll start the season in 2012/13 as preseason faves too. But I suspect we will see someone else represent the 7th next yr. Ballard is my pick. Then we can all sleep better with our "greatest show in hoops" because a private all boys school has to buy a ticket to see it like everyone else.

 

Disagree, think it's brought up about every year at this time, just like private vs public is during the All A tourny.

With all due respect, I don't recall it being brought up after Rowan and Christian in the final last yr. Or the year before that with Shelby Valley.

I say change nothing about the Sweet Sixteen.

Agreed. However, they wouldn't act like it's the end of HS baseball in the state of KY like some are reacting here.

What needs revamping is the KHSAA, which is an absolute joke.
