JC had 3 touchdowns in the first 5 plays from scrimmage. Credit to Ashland for digging out of the huge hole they created, but JC stuck with their game plan and never looked back. Hope #1 JJ Jude is OK. He took a wicked hit on the supposed fumble late in the game, and looked dazed coming off the field. Tough kid and terrific runner. He can't be arm-tackled!

Even with the game starting at 5:00, could it be dark enough late in the game to affect the passing game for both teams?

Hoping to see a great game. Highlands bye week, so a few of us are making the trek down the Double A to see two potential playoff opponents slug it out. No surprises with JC's offense, and if their defense is on their game, Ashland will have a long night. Ashland's offense may present a challenge for JC like they haven't seen, however the Ironton game is evidence they can be stopped. Home field advantage to Ashland, but that hasn't helped of late. The #1 seed in the district is on the line, with the chance to host Highlands in the third round of the playoffs if everything falls into place. Should be a good one. On the logistics side, two questions. First, what time is the game (7 or 7:30)? Two, is there ample parking around the school, or do we need to find a spot on a side street nearby? See you Friday!

I don't think I have ever read a thread that blamed poor performance on partying too much. What I have seen, in football in particular, is a system that takes championship Red Devil football teams, turns them into good freshman teams, and then somewhere after that, they stop winning. I'm certain it isn't one thing you can point to, but what is it that enables this pattern to continue?

That's certainly one way to look at it, but I don't believe anyone does. Perhaps a better scenario would be to allow Pike to play only QB (or LB, if you believe that is his stonger position) for the entire game, and see if it improves his performance late in the game. I think that is what many of the posters in this thread, and all season, have been espousing.

Several rituals continue. First, in the offseason, the linemen (O and D) have a usual Thursday evening linemen dinner. One of their favorites is a local Chinese buffet, where they get their money's worth. Occasionally, they head to B-Dubs for some wings, but buffets hold the most promise. The seniors have a Wednesday meal during the season, and the senior parents take turns hosting. Pre-game meals are on Friday between school dismissal and game time. Parents serve and clean up. As for Mr. Towles buying steak when he goes untouched, I haven't heard that offer. Might be a nice touch, or he may be planning on buying them each a Rolex instead!

The challenge here is to the predictability of the bolded part above. Not sure that you can assign a high expectation of this year in and year out, and even less so in the early part of the season when Dixie seems to tire before the end of a game.

If you know as much about this team as you pretend, then you know there is plenty of leadership on this team that fits your description. If you have any question about who the leaders are, go ask a few players. I guarantee they will give you a consistent answer, and there won't be a lot of ambiguity.

Is this a question mark for you, because I don't believe it is for the team? There is plenty of senior leadership on this team, and the success of this team doesn't rely solely on any one of the seniors.

Could this be the last time (at least for a while) that these two teams play? If the projected alignment for 2011 and beyond is accurate, then HHS will not be playing Dixie as part of a District match-up, and one would have to question the value of having them on the schedule earlier in the season. Or, would Dixie even want to play Highlands when they don't have to?

Perhaps you missed the point of the post. The poster said that Highlands should prepare like they are going to play T or X, when in fact they are playing Eastern. The point being that Eastern should not be taken lightly, and the game should be prepared for as if they are playing either one of the top 6A programs in the state. No one compared HHS to T or X except you. Yes, we know that these players have never played X, however they did play T in a scrimmage earlier.

Robert plays all positions on the O Line, including Tight End. Against Boone County, he played Tight End (wore #34), however for the previous couple of games, he played interior, and started at Right and Left Tackle.

How do you figure? Certainly, Ryle won the first half, but last the second half and the game. As to this team losing some competitive steam, I think you are dreaming again.

Heard his name called a few times, and had one rushing touchdown, I believe. Not a bad weekend; 4 on Friday and 1 on Saturday! The chant last night was 4 for 4! Guess that has to be changed for 5 for 4.

Funny you mention it. My son came home last night and told me how dusty it looked on film in the Anderson game. Maybe we'll see a lot of 3 yards and a cloud of dust!

I'm wondering why the bolded item above is a surprise to you, given the Boone's track record. Looks to me like the Freshman passed the ball about half as much as the average Varsity game.

Not very funny considering the injury the player from Campbell County sustained last week.

Just wondering - what makes you say it will turn into a running clock situation? Last season HHS won 21 - 0, but the game felt closer than the final score. Of course, that was last year, and this is this year. I read online (Enquirer, I think) that Winton Woods was up 42 - 7 at the end of the third, and then Withrow came back and scored 28 in the fourth. One might assume that Winton Woods put in their 2's and 3's to get some game experience, but the article never mentioned that. So, other than the fact that Withrow has lost both games they have played, what else do you have to go on to predict the running clock?
