Hoping to see a great game. Highlands bye week, so a few of us are making the trek down the Double A to see two potential playoff opponents slug it out.

No surprises with JC's offense, and if their defense is on their game, Ashland will have a long night.

Ashland's offense may present a challenge for JC like they haven't seen, however the Ironton game is evidence they can be stopped.

Home field advantage to Ashland, but that hasn't helped of late.

The #1 seed in the district is on the line, with the chance to host Highlands in the third round of the playoffs if everything falls into place. Should be a good one.

On the logistics side, two questions. First, what time is the game (7 or 7:30)? Two, is there ample parking around the school, or do we need to find a spot on a side street nearby?

See you Friday!

I think that JC will win this game because of JJ Jude. I think that the week that they have had off will help.

I chose JC, but so far this year Ashland has been the better team.

BGBird, the game is at 7:30 and most likely you will have to park on side streets around or close to Putnam Stadium. Should be a huge crowd Friday night.

This should be a very good game. Lots of slobber knocker hits!! Love to see it.

The Tomcats will IMO have to play the best game of the season on defense. The question is can they stop JC enough to out score them in what I believe will be a high scoring game. Ashland has gone up against three good running teams. Greenup Co, Belfry and Ironton. Giving up 31 points per game in those three. Good thing is they won two of the three. But Johnson Central is really going to be a TOUGH GAME. JC played Boyle Co tough. And beat a very good Knox Central team. IMO Johnson Central will pull this game out in the last quarter. If JC can run they win!! If the tomcats can control the run they have a shot!! Easier said then done though!....... JC 33---Cats 28

Good luck to both teams!

Ashland will host Johnson Central at Putnam Stadium.

What are your thoughts about the game?

Well, the Cats are going to have step up their run defense. They have not stopped a running team much this year, and that appears to be their one short coming. I would say they have worked on that this past week. I don't know what Ironton did to stop Ashland offense, or if it was more what Ashland did to stop their own offense, but that can't happen in this game. Ashland will have to put, at least, 24 on the board to win this game.

As for Johnson Central, they have a good ground game and wear a team down, they need to control the ball and keep Ashlands quick strike offense off the field. That would put them in the best place to win. Pressuring Hunter is going to be another focal point for Johnson Central. They don't want him being able to set in the pocket and check down to secondary receivers, making him run would probably play right into the hands of Johnson Central.

All in all, I expect a good game, Ashland is going to play to Johnson Central's weaknesses and pass. Johnson Central is going to go with what they do best and what appears to be Ashland's weakness and run the ball straight at them. It will depend on who's weakness is the weakest.

Ashland will host Johnson Central at Putnam Stadium.

Should be a 7:30 Start, & you better get there early or you'll be parking 2-3 blocks down the street from the stadium. if you get there early, you'll find a good spot on a side street close to the stadium, & be able to get out quickly.

Frankly, I'm worried. The Tomcats "stunk out loud" at Ironton - and they historically don't do well with a week off.

This should be a very good game with the #1 seed in the district on the line.

Expect a high scoring game. I think in the end though, JC's ball control run game will be the difference.

JC with an excellent ground game plus a difference maker at a RB should win this one. With the game on the "hallowed ground" of Putnam Stadium I look for the "ghost's" of Tomcat football  to arrive and win this game.......maybe by that famous fg.:sssh:

Ashland 23

JCHS 21

I pull for the Tomcats in all but one week of the season so.....GO TOMCATS!!!

^^ Thanks Oldrambler. I'd be happy with a 2-point win!

I think Putnam Stadium was the best place I ever played a high school football game. It was also one of the hardest places to go into and come out with a win. These 2 teams are evenly matched and this should be a dandy. I am going to go with the Eagles. To much JK Hall & JJ Jude IMO.

Johnson Central: 35

Ashland: 22

It's good for Ashland and Johnson Central that this rivalry gets to continue with the new district alignment. It's bad for both schools that they get paired up in the opposite district from Highlands AGAIN. I look for Ashland and Johnson Central to continue to compete on a yearly basis for the right to play Highlands. I guess it's like they say...to be the best you've got to beat the best. One of these teams will continue to get that chance for the next 4 years.

As for this years game, I agree 100% with Ram's assessment of the game in post #7. However, I'll go ahead and predict that Ashland is going to win in a high scoring affair. The Tomcats have a lot to play for and should have learned a few things about their team after the bad loss at Ironton. Putnam Stadium with the closed in end zone can be a very tough place to play when the team and fans are hungry for a win. I hope a big Ashland crowd turns out for the game because I'm counting on the home field advantage being the difference in my prediction. All signs point to Ashland having trouble stopping the ground game of Johnson Central because as Ram said, they haven't stopped anyone with a decent running attack so far this season. I think Ashland's offense will match Johnson Central, though, and come away with a 34-32 win.

On a side note, I've mentioned several times that I think sophomore Malik Massey needs to get some more touches. According to the stats on the KHSAA site, he's touched the ball 6 times this season (4 rushes and 2 receptions) for a total of 121 yards and 2 TDs. I realize some of these may have come in "garbage time", but he certainly looks like a big time talent who could help the Ashland offense quite a bit if given the opportunity. Granted I don't follow the Ashland program closely, so maybe there is some other reason (like an injury) I don't see him on the stat sheets very much, but I think a lot of his abilities as a player from what I've seen.
