  1. I think Highlands will beat my Tomcats by whatever they want. Being a participant back in the day, I unfortunately have been on the losing side of 1968(61-0) and 1969(35-14) to the Bluebirds. Plus I was witness to a 52-6 loss at Highlands during my son's freshman season(2008). Nothing has changed much today that could sway my thinking to the fact that Fort Thomas Highlands isn't going to be dominate Friday night.I love my Tomcats but being unrealistic is simply Dumb.Good Luck to both teams!
  2. I believe the last time Ashland beat Highlands was in 1954. The last time Ashland played Highlands in a regular season game was 1969. I saw very few games through the history to which Ashland played Highlands close. Even though I love my Maroon and White, I don't see this game being any different than the last one played in 2008(53-6).If Highlands has a good passing game, they should be able to exploit Ashland's short secondary. Last year when Ashland played Covington Catholic, I thought their passing attack would prevail. However they ran all over the Tomcats at Putnam Stadium. If Highlands Strength is running the ball, they may initially have some trouble with Ashland's defensive line. Thats why I think Ft.Thomas will go to the air early and often.I would love to see the Tomcats win but being a realist numbs my confidence.
  3. Ryan Switzer of Charleston(WVa) George Washington ran for 211 yds. on 27 carries in a Tomcat 14 - 18 loss at Putnam Stadium the third game of the season.
  4. Great game to watch at the Cam! Both teams flexed their Defensive strengths. I thought Belfry controlled both the offensive and defensive lines of scrimage. Belfry's ball control kept the Tomcats offense off the field most of the second half.Great strategic move by Coach Haywood in 4th quarter to take a knee and keep Ashland from ever getting the ball back. This game will help both teams prepare for the challenges for the district and playoffs. Congrats to the Pirates and I wish you continued success!
  5. I believe that this will be a good football game between two tradition rich programs. Even though the series has been in Ashland's favor, the games have been very competitive. I feel ,like Watusi, that it will be a game in which will prepare each team for the playoffs in their respective classes. I am glad that the game is being played later in the season than previously because it is not a district game and both teams have had great results up to this point. I am looking forward to coming down to the CAM for Friday's game. I think this game will exploit the strengths and weakness of each team. I was there two years ago and saw a great game in which the final score was 22-20 Ashland. Hope for the best from both teams and may they be injury free afterwards.
  6. They only played 3 Qrts and Ashland won 40 to 26. Mason County was ahead at the half 26 to 24. Instead of playing the 4th Quarter, both teams used both ends of the field to play the players that did not get to play much. All said both teams escaped the scrimage with no serious injuries. Lawrence County up next Friday night in Louisa. Bulldogs vs. Tomcats in a real Cat n Dog fight.
  7. I noticed that Ashland and Rowan County schedules have them both playing at Boyd County on September 30th. Could someone please find some information on which schedule is correct.
  8. Has Greenup County Finalized their 20011 Football Schedule yet? Be interesting to see how the slate shapes up.
  9. That is a nice looking schedule. Playing Ashland later in the season, should make it a must see game as Coach Haywood's teams seem to get better each game. I know the last two years the game was played earlier and even though Asland won, both games were very close. Good Luck to the Pirates in 2011! Looking forward to the October 7th game against the Tomcats at the Cam.
  10. 8/19 @ Lawrence County 8/26 Raceland 9/2 George Washington(W.Va) 9/9 @ Russell 9/16 Ironton(OH) 9/23 @ Rowan County* 9/30 @ Boyd County* 10/7 @ Belfry 10/14 Greenup County* 10/21 Johnson Central* 10/28 BYE * District Game
  11. BGBird, the game is at 7:30 and most likely you will have to park on side streets around or close to Putnam Stadium. Should be a huge crowd Friday night.
