mcpapa Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Belfry may be the place to be in eastern KY on Friday night; should be a great matchup.
spindoc Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 I think Ashland wins this one. Line play is very solid.
Watusi Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 This one should be a dandy. The Pirates are the underdogs, but they have a lot of fight in them. Really looking forward to it.
oldrambler Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 ^ Yes it should be. I will pick Ashland, they are a well balanced football team with excellent strength plus speed. Tomcats 20 Pirates 14
The Cerebral Assassin Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Game of the week.Agreed....having seen Ashland up close, I have to feel that they are the favorite. An undefeated Pirate team will be tough at home though... Tomcats 28 Pirates 21
Watusi Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I'm not sure what to expect. Belfry has done what they needed to do, but hasn't been in a real battle in a while. They beat Henry Clay convincingly and took a knee on the last drive to keep from scoring, but that win doesn't look as good now after seeing what Henry Clay's results have been. They outscored Prestonsburg in a game where Prestonsburg's defense couldn't stop them, but on the flip side, Belfry let the Blackcats tear them apart through the air. Other than that, it has been blowouts where you couldn't tell really how good the Pirates are or aren't. This Ashland team is another animal, and we will get a good idea of what kind of football team we have on Pond Creek come Friday night. Ashland has always had Belfry's number, even though most of the games were very competitive. Belfry needs this game, they need a gut check, a measuring stick to expose their weaknesses and make them dig and claw for 4 quarters. Win or lose, this will be very good for both squads, IMO. I'm excited just talking about it.
Powercat4 Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I believe that this will be a good football game between two tradition rich programs. Even though the series has been in Ashland's favor, the games have been very competitive. I feel ,like Watusi, that it will be a game in which will prepare each team for the playoffs in their respective classes. I am glad that the game is being played later in the season than previously because it is not a district game and both teams have had great results up to this point. I am looking forward to coming down to the CAM for Friday's game. I think this game will exploit the strengths and weakness of each team. I was there two years ago and saw a great game in which the final score was 22-20 Ashland. Hope for the best from both teams and may they be injury free afterwards.
RAMS68_1 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Ashland I believe has played a tougher schedule. They played the best that West Virginia has to offer. A speed team. And should have won imo. They have also beat two good running teams in Russell and Ironton. So what ever Belfry throws at the tomcats. I think they can and will handle it. A good Prestonsburg team put up 30 points on Belfry. So I can't see Belfry slowing down the tomcats to much. Belfry does have a big home field advantage. The tomcats will be on the bus a few hours before the game. Tomcats take this one in a hard fought battle 30-24.
Commander 25 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I will take Belfry in this one 28-20. How many wins does Haywood have now?
Watusi Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 He has 343, Commander. Dudley Hilton and Bob Schneider share the record at 345.
Commander 25 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 He has 343, Commander. Dudley Hilton and Bob Schneider share the record at 345. I knew that he was real close to the record. Thanks
LRCW Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I'll take Ashland 42-0. Ok, now that Watusi has spit his drink all over the computer screen, I'll give my real pick on this game. Ashland has looked pretty good so far this season. Ironton moved the ball on the ground on Ashland with great success in the 1st half of their game, but they couldn't hold on to the ball when they go near the endzone. It will be interesting to see how Ashland's defense fares against the Pirates. Being on the road in a very hostile enviroment will be a very tough task for the Tomcats. I'll still go with Ashland in this one, in a very close game. Ashland 34 Belfry 28
Watusi Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I think it will be a close one too. Ashland has given up quite a bit of yards against the better running teams they have faced. Lawrence 179, GW 304, Russell 193, Ironton 224. I think Belfry will be able to have some success moving the football. Belfry has given up a few passing yards too against the better passing teams they have faced. Pburg 267, Pikeville 151. I think Ashland will be able to throw the ball with success. This one may come down to special teams and turnovers.
