Highlands 42 Boone County 0 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

Another nice outing by the Baby Birds. Boone County had some nice size boys, but the speed of the Birds was the difference tonight. Another good outing for the Birds. Nice team effort tonight. Great runs, great runs after catch and the blocking was fantastic down field. The defense was stout. Linemen held the line and linebackers finished them off. It was an all-around nice outing. Next up....Cooper.

* - If you had an earlier schedule, it might have said @ Boone for this game but that was changed. Also, Baby Birds will leave the nest for the 1st time next WED to face Cooper which was originally shown as a home game for HHS).

Any other changes in the Frosh schedule for this year (or better yet, can someone post the (updated) frosh schedule for the rest of the year)?

Who scored for the Birds?

Who scored for the Birds?

I know Hays, Greene and Plau scored. Not sure who else.

Hayes scored 1st TD on punt return, I think. Houliston scored on a QB draw. I recall a long catch & run from Houliston to Hergott on a WR screen, but can't remember if that was for a score or just a long gain. Greene definitely scored (I think on a reverse) and Plau scored the last TD on a long sweep. Assuming Hergott's was not a TD, we're missing 2 TDs. I would guess Harris and/or Wrobleski on short TD runs, but that is just a guess.

Echoing the above post by kp, the DEF stopped the only thing Boone was prepared to do -- run the ball. The 3 down linemen (True, Hope, Schweitzer and others in rotations) did the dirty work of occupying the lineman so the LBs could find the ball and tackle it. Greene, Hergott, Shadle and Hayes did a solid job of turning runs back inside. Also, props to Kyle Ruehl (sp?) #92. He made some very good defensive plays from the OLB position.

Nice play all over the defensive side for the Baby Birds last night. I really like the way Harris moves side-to-side; kid has a nose for the ball (and he's not to shabby carrying it also). Offensively, another nice game for the Birds. I'd like to see Plau get a few carries with the first team and Hayes' number called a few more times on the sweeps, but definitely another nice game.

Awful coaching by Boone is making a decent team bad. I'm confused as to why these guys are aloud to coach a team at a highs school level. Boone threw the ball only twice the whole game and players are out of position. As a fan, I am emabarrased.

I'm wondering why the bolded item above is a surprise to you, given the Boone's track record. Looks to me like the Freshman passed the ball about half as much as the average Varsity game.

Sounds like the baby Birds O-line is doing mighty fine! Someone post who these "hogs" are !!

You have a point there! You would think after getting beat by Highlands and Ryle on a consistent basis the coaches would take a look at what is making them so successful and join the party. (If you can't beat em', join em)3 yards and a cloud of dust isn't cutting it anymore.

There are a lot of kids with speed on the Birds frosh team, but man, Plau looked really, really fast on his TD. And he has excellent running form. Looked like a sprinter. I was impressed.

Hope Highlands keeps scheduling Boone on the varsity level. Should be great competition.

I definitely would like to see Hayes and Plau get more playing time on offense. Talk about a fast backfield. Plau is also a very good punter. The only area that the freshman could improve on is placekicking.
