  1. Officially, they usually start their conditioning the first day back to school following New Years. Unofficially, there will be some of the younger guys in the weight room today getting a head start.
  2. Sounds a bit like Christian County in 2010 with Hickey and Tandy. The Birds' strategy to contain Hickey and keep him from improvising in the open field was the key. Without the ability to scramble and create plays, he had to revert to passing, and the rest is history.
  3. Nice to see the O Line getting some recognition. Always nice to read quotes from the QB about the protection he receives! It has been said many times, but bears repeating that Coach T (Scott Turner) does an outstanding job year after year assembling a top notch unit. On many high school teams, the largest, slowest and least-athletic players are relegated to playing the O Line, and the results show. If you play O Line for Highlands, you will be in shape and expected to perform with the same precision expected of "skill" players. As the Birds' O Lines shouts after each practice - "O Line Pride!"
  4. Great 2nd post! I can only guess that your first post showed the same insight and keen intellect that this one has. Looking forward to your next gem.
  5. Scott County replaced Dixie on the schedule when Dixie dropped the birds. Don't know much about the competitive potential of the series. This years' Scott County team didn't offer the game that was anticipated, so I wonder what is going to change before next season.
  6. LOL. You must not have been around any player or coach for Highlands during CovCath week. There will be no under preparation for the Colonels should they meet a second time. Not even a chance they aren't ready.
  7. Two questions: 1) Can you explain what you are trying to say in your above post? And, what do you mean "collectively prefer to deny?" 2) What does any of your post above have to do with Highlands' 2013 schedule?
  8. Two questions. First, why are all the hard feelings directed at BW, rather than at the program that failed to provide a reason to stay and play? Beechwood is an attractive option for so many reasons, but rather than looking at how to make "our" program better, the answer always appears to be that Beechwood is to be blamed for being so attractive. Secondly, it is funny that you state the the impression overwhelmingly is that Beechwood's success has been built with kids from other programs. The statistics just don't support that notion, but why let numbers get in the way of a good emotional rant. But, unless and until the programs that keep losing all their star talent to Beechwood do something to improve their own situation, it will continue to happen.
  9. I think calling the sentiment angst is way, way overstating it. Really, it is humerous. Evidently some Bulldog fellow got on a radio program calling out Highlands for ducking the Pioneers a few years back, so the whole "who's ducking who" conversation began there.
  10. You mean to tell me that South Kenton wouldn't duck playing a team from Ft. Thomas like Simon Kenton has?
  11. Ah, the old "If you can't beat 'em, banish 'em" line of thinking. Well done! Let me ask you this, if the above were to happen, and the team you support didn't win a state title, what would you then blame it on?
  12. Won't be long until you start drinking some of the blue kool-aid and move to the Fort to be near your sister and watch the Birds!:ylsuper: The Athletic Boosters would be your best chance to get some gear, but they usually try to sell out of this year's inventory by the end of the school year before loading up in summer for the next season. There is an embroidery shop in Bellevue that has the various Bluebird logos, which can be applied to whatever hat or shirt or whatever you want. PM me and I will give you the name. Lastly, as today is the last day of school, there may be some merchandise available for sale in the bookstore. Not sure about that one, but might be worth a call if you can get there before 2:45pm today.
  13. I was replying to ABC2's post about the team 2 years ago (Class of 2011), which did not win the freshman championship, and was characterized on this board as mediocre. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
  14. You left out mediocre!:ohbrother:
  15. Congrats to Waldo! Rose-Hulman is a great school, with a reputation for engineering, so he should enjoy that if that is his chosen vocation. Rose's coach will be in his second year, and they made some noise in the Heartland Conference last year, so Jason should have a good time playing for the Fightin' Engineers!
  16. Anything is possible, I guess. Being able to beat Highlands and actually doing it are two different things. From what I read, the Colonels were capable of beating HHS at their house last year, but fell just short. And, this year, the game will be at Highlands, which moves the needle at least a little in the Birds' favor, not to mention Highlands has a lot returning. And, just to add a view from behind Leatherneck's spectacles, simply beating Highlands doesn't guarantee CC the 4A state title. Lexington Catholic returns some good contributors from last season, including their QB (I think....), and will be a tough out in the playoffs for anyone they play. Thanks for starting another Highlands thread to keep the offseason interesting. Since you and the Bulldog are in agreement about the SK program, I guess you have to look elsewhere to talk about the potential for a state championship!
  17. Interesting find. So, how does SK's #1 fan land such a scoop, especially about NCC?
  18. Toucan Sam, It appears that you are postulating that guys at small schools can't be top flight, which I believe is incorrect. So, following your line of thinking, if a college player isn't playing at the DI level, he can't be a top flight player? What about the guys who are outstanding, but due to grades/academic background have to go to Junior College for 2 or 3 years? Are they not top flight until they get to a DI program?
  19. I agree that TMC has found a niche with the Greater Cincinnati area, and has done very well the last few years especially. It is great to see a lot of the local guys who play for the Saints because they weren't prototypical DI players. As to the bolded point, I would suggest that often times the players who play at DIII/NAIA level are in fact top flight players, but lack a physical attribute (size & speed being the top) to attract the DI scholarship attention. Back to the thread - Congratulations to Goose!
  20. I don't think the college has made the decision to do that yet. As of last fall, they were exploring the idea for purposes of "improving" their resume for another academic credential they were considering. Not sure how far along that has gone.
  21. Fresh from the AP Newswire.... Gloria Steinem has heard rumblings of this thread, and is threatening to file suit in Federal Court as the term "Waterboy" is sexist. She has demanded that the title be changed to Water Person, or Hydration Engineer, and will agree to not file suit if it can be guaranteed that either gender will receive equal pay for performing the task.
  22. I wish to lodge a protest. The Waterboys for Dayton, Bellevue, Newport and Ludlow all have an unfair advantage versus others in NKY. They have access to an unlimited supply (albeit of questionable quality) of water at their disposal. I say we put all waterboys of river town schools in the same class!
  23. What's your point? Mitch did a fantastic job this year both snapping and blocking. Not sure why you feel like you need to take a shot??
