  1. Program began at 2:30pm, and was wrapping up a little after 7ish, I recall. Then dinner and the highlight video.
  2. Man, that is too bad for Goldie! I guess he will just have to settle for 4 State Rings on his fingers and 4 State Championship patches on the back of his letter jacket. I'm sure he is kicking himself right now at not playing for the mighty SK.......
  3. Wow! I, for one, am happy to see the State Senator pouring his energy into the most pressing issues the state is dealing with!
  4. How do you figure? Played each other in the third round of the playoffs for the last 3 years, with last year's game coming down to the last minute and a half, with JC driving for at least a game-tying touchdown.
  5. Also heard from a reliable source that as part of the Woolfest weekend, both teams will sport custom uniforms made of 100% wool. Highlands' jerseys will be the same tartan plaid as the cheerleaders' skirts/kilts, and Pendleton County will have a unique plaid of their school's colors Red and Black. OK, I just made it up, but since it seems that every college team has some special uniform that it could be tried here.
  6. Will be interesting to see how Dixie performs in this one. They usually start the season slowly, and look to be out of football shape until 4 or 5 games into the season. Is this enough reason to ramp up some of the off-season conditioning?
  7. Not to take anything away from Coach Lickert, but shouldn't every coach expect this from the school they coach, especially when they are brand new to the job?
  8. Really? He isn't even on the sideline yet, and already they are thinking about when he will leave? Why not focus on supporting the coach and the program, help build it up to the potential that has been predicted, and then if he were to leave, it will be that much more of a desirable position for other coaches to aspire to?
  9. Of course he/she will! The question is how many times will he tell us in 2011?
  10. I think that might be a touch cynical. Back during the second year of Dave Brossart's tenure, there were quite a few converstions on here that really shouldn't have been held out in the open. Since Coach Wirth took over, those conversations have been minimized, and it appears that this situation continues in that vein. It will come out in time as to the changes to the coaching staff.
  11. First thought is, who is Mark Perry, and where is Washington County? What has he done there, what class are they, etc?
  12. Yes. He was 2nd team Right Guard, and got in for parts of 4 or 5 series. Also played on Kick Off Return and Punt Team on special teams. Had a great time at the Border Bowl!
  13. At the high school level, I think that technique and overall offensive scheme are more important to the success of the O-Line, versus size. It is very rare in KY that you see a huge line, all with good technique and a scheme that supports that style of play. A lot of it is due to what you have to work with, and making the most of it. Highlands O-Line is rarely bigger than the teams they are playing, but the offensive scheme caters to a mobile style of line play. Don't get me wrong, Highlands has had its share of big guys, but they are able to move and have developed good footwork to get where they need to be. At the college level, where you have the ability to select who you have through recruiting, you can attract players who have the large physical size and ability to move. The service academies are different in that they are recruiting for a different purpose altogether. Lastly, I think you also have to look at coaching. Whatever linemen you have, they have to be just as smart, and just as well coached as every skill position to be successful. It has been mentioned on here repeatedly that much of Highlands success in recent history has been due to the excellent coaching of Scott Turner.
  14. I can't believe this hasn't been posted already. Congrats to all the members of the 2010 AP All State Team! http://www.fox41.com/Global/story.asp?S=13760993
  15. No, unfortunately not. According to History, Highlands is now ducking the Bengals, along with Trinity and St. X.:jump:
  16. Several thoughts on your post: next year’s freshman team will be a big challenge for the coaches May be, but they aren't even in the weight room yet. The system works, and has been proven over and over again. It will with this group as well. no true “leader/leaders” You have already determined this among 8th graders? There will be leaders emerge in this class. To your point, they may not have stepped out in front yet, but they will, in time. with no standout players That's fine. There have been some really great Highlands teams with no "household names" playing, so it really doesn't matter if there are any players who you would consider standout. Lastly, I would encourage you to think about what you are posting about a bunch of kids who aren't even a team yet. Many of the kids who will be on this freshman team read this site, and it can be pretty disheartening to read about what a mediocre team you are going to be part of. Let's see how they play before we decree that the talent is marginal.
  17. Chad was great today! Good control of the offense, and a couple of really good runs. Completed some nice passes, and just missed on a couple of others. But, to give credit where it was due, he did have a large Blue H (from Highlands) on the front of his helmet. That may have been the difference. Just kidding about the Blue H making the difference.:thumb:
  18. John Dudley Hilton from Bell County. Played an excellent game, and got pressed into handling kick off duties when the kicker got injured in practice yesterday.
  19. Would really love to play at the next level. Currently talking with a variety of regional DIII schools from Wittenberg to Hanover to Center and points in between.
  20. 2:00pm at St. Xavier in Louisville. Considering the current state of precipitation, it should be a wonderful afternoon of football!
  21. Should have stuck with your prediction of 77 - 0. You would have been closer than everyone else!
  22. Agreed! He had a lot of missed time to make up for, and he sure did! I loved it that he got to close out his career with a TD in the finals!
  23. Before we get too carried away with the "troubled kids" garbage, let's put it in perspective. Yes, there were some real knuckleheads in this class when they were freshmen, but they either changed their ways, or quit football. All in the class got painted with the same brush back then, but as you have noted, they have come a long way. Instead of focusing on the troubled few, let's remember the core group of players on this team who have done exactly what has been expected of them all along, and that is to work like a Highlands football player and be part of a successful team.
  24. Don't think that will happen. The Bears stay in 5A, the Birds move to 4A. Who knows, a few years down the road when they re-draw the lines, and we may meet again.
