  1. Funny you mention it. My son came home last night and told me how dusty it looked on film in the Anderson game. Maybe we'll see a lot of 3 yards and a cloud of dust!
  2. Wait, hear's an idea. Drop Boone County from the schedule, and then H can quit ducking either Trinity or X! How'd I do, History!
  3. I'm wondering why the bolded item above is a surprise to you, given the Boone's track record. Looks to me like the Freshman passed the ball about half as much as the average Varsity game.
  4. Not very funny considering the injury the player from Campbell County sustained last week.
  5. Just wondering - what makes you say it will turn into a running clock situation? Last season HHS won 21 - 0, but the game felt closer than the final score. Of course, that was last year, and this is this year. I read online (Enquirer, I think) that Winton Woods was up 42 - 7 at the end of the third, and then Withrow came back and scored 28 in the fourth. One might assume that Winton Woods put in their 2's and 3's to get some game experience, but the article never mentioned that. So, other than the fact that Withrow has lost both games they have played, what else do you have to go on to predict the running clock?
  6. What makes the proposal "too much?" There isn't anything in the rule that forces schools to participate in spring football, so those that don't want to don't have to. Those that do, will have an opportunity to do so in much more optimal weather.
  7. Shouldn't you have added that the game could be replaced by either T or X? Just saying.
  8. First of all, the bolded statement above isn't a done deal. First, HHS has to get top seed in the district, as does Johnson Central. Makes the JC at Ashland game on October 8th pretty important. And, as for your last point to this being a preview, I'm not sure I buy into that. Two totally different styles of football and running attacks by these two teams. And, as the season unfolds, it will be interesting to see how JC's defense steps up. Their offense can score points, however if their defense can't get off the field, their offense isn't built to come from behind. Boyle County was able to put some points on the board against the Eagles, and it will be interesting to see if others can as well.
  9. History, you are too funny. You act as if you just learned some deep dark secret. Make sure you print that one out for your archive file of 'Secret Highlands Stuff'!
  10. While that may be obvious to you to make it the opening game of the season, from time to time, Highlands is invited to play in events across the river, like the Herbstreit and other events, which are not always planned as well in advance as you may think. So, if you lock up a date with one of those teams on your list, it may preclude Highlands from accepting an invite to a big time event. So, while the process in general may be "easy," there are other considerations in play. Lastly, while I have been amused by the rambling repetitions of History regarding Highlands schedule, I am firmly convinced that no amount of banter on this forum are going to change any of Dale's practices in preparing next year's schedule. Or the next year. And so on. I'm good with that.
  11. With all due respect to your eye for talent, that will be up to the D1 schools to decide. It is fantastic for the young man to get some attention, apparently from some pretty decent programs. And, as you know, he is only a junior. I really hope he prints out your post, tacks it to a bulletin board in his room, and then on National Signing Day in 2012, has the last laugh!
  12. You'll have to check with History for an official ruling, but based on previous posts, he/she may say something like: * No, it doesn't count, as it is only on the freshman level, not Varsity. * If the Freshman can play one of the Louisville teams, why can't varsity? * See if the Freshman-schedule-maker can work on the Varsity schedule next year, and it will get done. History, please feel free to add your own twist to the question, as I am sure I missed a good one!
  13. Just wondering - what makes their way a better perspective?
  14. How many Ryle players play both ways, even in spot situations? Last year, I recall a change from the first game to the second, with several players picking up time on D as well. Have they started out that way this year?
  15. Two things stand our for me from the first game last year. First, the opening kick off was sent directly to Collinsworth. That had to be planned, and was meant to make a statement. It wasn't returned for anything huge as I recall, but it did set the tone from a game planning point of view, IMHO. The second is the fake punt that gave Highlands good field position and led to an early score. Again, a statement call, showing confidence in the team to take care of business. So, given those two examples, and more I am sure, I fully expect some risk-taking in play calling from the Ryle coaching staff this week.
  16. I have to respectfully disagree with the bolded part above. Manual didn't look in shape at all, for the most part. HHS wasn't running a fast paced no huddle, but still the Manual D looked winded quite a lot. A lot of the "hands on hips" look across the D even in the first quarter, and a few players requesting to come out after a few plays.
  17. Wasn't the pass interference call on a hugely overthrown pass their largest gain?
  18. I think this is crystal clear in the coach's minds, and only remains a question for posters on message boards. Spring football went a long way toward determining who the starting 5 will be, and that hasn't wavered through summer practices.
  19. OK, I have to ask. What does that have to do with anything? Either the charter bus company painted their buses in a UK theme (which makes sense in Lexington), or the university is doing some charter bus work to make use of buses they would have had idle. If they had rolled up in old school buses, would they have been less of a top notch team? Just wondering.
  20. O-Line: Wiegand, Nienaber, Hahn and Sanders are Seniors. Trapp and Robinson are Juniors. D-Line: Hollingsworth, Bowling, Cecil and Robinson are Seniors. Bruns and Bowling are Juniors. Jason has been working at Tackle (as recently as last night) on the O-Line. Based on what I saw last night at practice, it looks like he will be playing JV. I have no idea on rosters for the scrimmage on Friday.
  21. Not sure if this will be final, but here is what it looks like as of recent practices. Offensive Line LT - Keenan Wiegand 54 LG - Robbie Nienaber 53 C - Ryan Hahn 51 RG - Austin Trapp 76 RT - Aaron Robinson 73 Also, may see Robert Sanders 67 at any one of the Interior O-Line positions, or as Tight End. Defensive Line (in no particular order; heavily rotated depending on situation) Austin Hollingsworth 48 Drake Bruns 42 Chad Bowden 17 Austin Bowling 28 Troy Cecil 57 Cam Robinson 70
  22. Highlands at Withrow was last year. At DCM this time around.
  23. Wouldn't the number of "move-ups" from A to AA create the opportunity for the same number of the smallest AA schools to move down, according to the proposal, keeping that class at 32?
  24. While the reports of some of the "issues" you heard back then were based on factual observations, please don't paint the entire class with the same brush as if they were all knuckleheads. Those who were at the center of the issues were a small minority of the freshman team that year, and those players have either seen the err of their ways and made the necessary changes or they have simply sought greener pastures elsewhere. Either way, I would suggest the overwhelming majority of this year's senior class have been the prototypical Highlands players, working hard for 3+ years now, and keeping far away from trouble.
