  1. He is a great transition coach between what they have experienced in JR league and what they will encounter throughout their high school years. They all know him from the Middle School and know of his expectations as a teacher, and I am sure that helps. He and Coach Behymer make a good team and are forming a good foundation for these boys to start their HS experience!
  2. Some of the early practices looked strange, with only two coaches working with the large group of freshmen. There were a lot of spectators in helmets and shoulder pads, however out of the beginning group of about 49 or 50, they still have a large number of players who have stuck it out.
  3. Morning practices are in Death Valley. Sometimes in the evening, they work on the upper field due to the band and 3 FTJFL Gold teams practicing in DV. There are 46 on the roster as of last week.
  4. Regarding the win streak, the team is familiar with the record, however that doesn't appear to be the only focus they have. They are being taught to "Play To Win," which every HHS player before them has been taught. If they take care of that, the streak will be intact.
  5. If this is true, and I have no reason to doubt you at this point, it is truly a shame.
  6. Who would be distracted? Varsity and JV are focused on their stuff, coaches are separate, and fans like to watch Highlands football at every level.
  7. My son, a Freshman lineman for HHS, has been led to believe they will scrimmage Beechwood on Friday.
  8. Week 1 (Aug 29) of the Freshman Season should be a great game, with HHS traveling to CCH! Birds have a lineman who played in the Red Devils system the last several years, along with a few other alumni of the FTJFL, so hopefully their line will be a strong point. It won't be the "Biggest Freshman Line Ever" that was predicted in late spring, but they're coming together nicely.
  9. Not to beat this horse any more than it already has been, but I can't say I am too fond of the notion that the passing attack only has to be "effective enough" vs. being a vital part of the offense. I can't say what the percentage was last season of running to passing plays, but I would guess it would be at least 70/30%. So, logically, opposing teams are going to spend their preparation time in a similar fashion. Give 'em some more to prepare for, and spread out the defense to cover more field. Let's find a way to use more tools in the tool box! OK, now I'm getting off my soap box, before I start the rant about squib-kicking in the regular season game with Cov Cath...........
