We'll see. If you have watched HHS O-Line play, then you know they know their assignments and execute. Oftentimes, they are giving up a lot of pounds to the defense, but find a way to get it done. Actually, the concern is not so much the size differential they give up, but when you combine that with speed, it is a difficult combination to work against. I'm betting Coach T will have them ready to go!

Agreed about the band. In fact, they may still be playing. Instead of packing it in for the evening, they continued to play as everyone left the stadium, at least 20 extra minutes.

Thanks for the sarcasm. What do you mean, this team just isn't what they were.....? And as for expectations, there is no reason to change. This team expects a lot of themselves, as do the fans. Keep working (as if we really needed to tell them that) and you will keep getting better.

Carter got the JV playing time when both Austin Abner and Ty Seidl were hurt. It was a good experience, however I don't know if he would have were it not for the injuries. I would also think that Carter would get some snaps at QB this year as well. We'll see what happens the rest of the year.

Let's keep in mind that it wasn't that long ago that the PA system at David Cecil Memorial wasn't any better. Much like Highlands did, someone at Ryle will get it done and then we can complain of the announcer yelling that the last run was enough for a "Crimson's First Down!!!!" PS - Yes, I know that Ryle is called the Raiders, and that no PA announcer at Ryle would ever make that mistake. It was just a reference to week 1 at Manual, and everyone at that game will get the joke!:lol:

I re-read his original post, and I didn't get that from what he wrote. However, you are correct that HHS fans tend to "participate robustly" in many threads, oftentimes adding a reference to the birds. It might have been more targeted to simply reply to the HHS reference in the Dixie/Beechwood thread.:idunno:

Suggestion for you. When you read Highlands in any thread title, don't click on it! I can guarantee you that when you do, you will experience the indigestion that caused you to post this gem.:confused:

OK, I'll take the bait. Keep in mind that ever other team that you, or others, would consider to be candidates for the best team ever, can be viewed in the entirity of their season. We have seen two games out of this team, and I can honestly say that I don't think they have hit their peak yet. Where will that be? Who knows, but it will be fun to watch! BTW - I couldn't care less about the best team ever thing. This team has some goals that they are striving for, and I'm enjoying them work to get there.

Let me see if I can put this in perspective. Highlands beats a fired-up, quality 6A opponent on their field, and it just doesn't live up to your expectations? You are tough.:ohbrother: Yes, there are things to work on, and in about 9 hours, the coaches and team will get to work on whatever they need to do to improve.

I was at the JV game last year, and I remember when St. X scored in the south endzone, and all 11 players on offense ran off the field to the sideline, and a fresh 11 came in for the PAT. X's JV had some very good football players, and it was a good learning experience for our guys. I seem to recall that the date became available when Scott couldn't field a JV team that week due to injuries on Varsity, so it worked out well that there was an open date that got filled with a quality opponent. #4 was a good runner who could change direction on a dime, and was elusive.

Too bad it is a public poll, and we can see that he/she chose Ryle to win.:idunno:

Fortunately, the real expectations for the team are set by the coaches and the team, regardless of what is speculated on message boards. I'm confident that those expectations were not altered based on last night's game!

Perhaps to add a little perspective to your post, the JV saw extensive playing time in the Holmes, Scott and Cov Cath games last year, and scored in each. From the scores alone, you may believe it is running up the score, but when you put in a sophomore-laden JV team, you can't tell them to not try. Starters were in the entire first half, and in a few cases a series or so in the third quarter, and then it was all JV from there. Although you chose to not bold the score, the JV did get significant time in the Dixie game as well, and the Colonels' starting O was able to score several times.

The last time we scrimmaged Male at HHS, the JV and Freshmen worked from the 50 in, with the Freshmen in the north and JV to the south. I seem to recall that they took turns at offense with 10 plays each and then switched. Following that, the Varsity played the entire field. I haven't heard what the format will be this year, so we'll have to wait on Henry's update.

The ultimate goal you point out is pretty subjective. How can you measure if they are the best team in HHS history? They go undefeated? No, there were others that did that. They win State? Again, others have done that. There really isn't a generally accepted measure to even evaluate one team vs. another. I have no doubt that they have the bar set plenty high already.

Referring here to the Frosh. Beginning last year, all (or most) NKY schools with freshman teams became one large conference, whereas they were previously divided with 1A-3A playing together and 4A-6A playing each other.

That's one way of looking at it. No, the trophy was not taken away, as Mitchell did not play in the title game. However, having to forfeit the 13 games that the KHSAA took away qualifies as getting "the shaft" as I see it, not to mention the suspension of the coach for 2 scrimmages and the first two regular season games!:madman:

Very close with both. Keenan Wiegand. Regardless of who the 5 are, there is no doubt that Coach Turner will have them in shape before too long.

My issue is that we are talking about Student Athletes, not the other way around. If a student is held back for academic reasons and still gets 4 years of high school eligibility, then the student part of the equation gets the priority. If held back for athletics, then I don't agree with the practice. But, last time I checked, there were a whole lot of people who didn't see eye to eye with my opinions, so I'll just add this one to the list!:lol:

I don't believe this would be the case. As a parent, there is no way in the world that I would allow my son to be held back just to gain another year of high school football eligibility. If there was an academic issue, and staying back a year was the teacher's recommendation, then OK. It just doesn't make sense in the long run. What if the student is held back in middle school just to get another year of eligibility, and then during his freshman year sustains a career-ending injury?

I'm really hoping that the repeat of the 8th grade is for academic reasons, as opposed to football.:confused:

Welz has been playing TE all spring. He has not had any reps on the line, from what I hear. With Roller still recuperating, I don't think there are too many other viable TE options, or at least any with experience. Depending on what the coaches see through the rest of Spring practice, there is still time to move Kyle to the line, if need be. In an earlier post in this thread, someone remarked that there are a lot of linemen, and with Coach Turner's skilled instruction, perhaps the thought is that they have what they need. There should be more on this later today, after the first Intra Squad scrimmage of Spring.

Yesterday (Wednesday) was just weightlifting, with no football activity, but they are back at it today after school.:banana:
